Job Summary This is a strategic post, as it relieves the office of National Director of the operational load with the aim of calibrating it for strategic thinking and decision-making. The office will be responsible for developing a competitive fundraising strategy for the organization. The post is also seeking to broaden the scope of MISA Zimbabwe in identifying and responding to the Regional and continental issues on expression, access to information and right to privacy. Duties Develop and implement a fundraising strategy for MISA in line with the organization’s changing needs; Lead on new initiatives including major donors, legacies and regular giving; Develop and maintain fundraising base and build on existing relationships with donors, volunteers, and funders; Continuously improve the effectiveness of existing fundraising operations; Oversee the maintenance of necessary systems to support fundraising in conjunction with the Finance & Programmes teams; Participate in the senior management of the organization; Assist in occasional duties which the National Director may request from time to time; Monitor, record and analyse media policy developments in Southern Africa; Undertake and coordinate regional research on emerging issues around free expression, access to information and right to privacy; Stakeholder engagement in Southern Africa; Initiating and managing regional events to maintain MISA’s thought leadership on expression, both online and off line. Key Result Areas Bankable idea generation through diversified fundraising; Timely response to calls for proposals; Coordination of proposal writing; Look for funding from local entities for sustainability purposes and spearhead the sustainability plan of the organisation; Compliance with MISA policies and procedures, standards and donor contractual obligations; Visibility and representation of MISA Zimbabwe to potential donors and stakeholders; Relationship management with funding partners and other key stakeholders; Regional leadership on campaigns; Regular research papers regionally Job specification A masters’ Degree in Social Sciences; At least three (3) years in a similar environment; Knowledge on regional developments on media, access to information and Privacy; Solid knowledge on Southern Africa; Negotiation skills; Project management skills in NGO sector environment; Creative thinking; Good communication and networking skills; Ability to work with minimum supervision; Gender sensitivity
