REPSSI is the leading African Psychosocial Support organisation and is inviting applications from suitable candidates for a District Social Worker position. REPSSI’s vision is that all girls, boys and youth enjoy psychosocial and mental wellbeing. The organisation has strong partnerships with governments (particularly the ministries responsible for social services, education and health), development partners, international organisations and NGOs in thirteen countries of East and Southern Africa. REPSSI is registered in Zimbabwe as a Private Voluntary Organisation, PVO No 10/12. For fifteen years, REPSSI has provided technical capacity enhancement to its partners to strengthen communities’ and families’ ability to promote the psychosocial wellbeing of their children and youth.
Position summary
The Regional Psychosocial Support Initiative seeks to identify 8 individuals to work for the duration of one year as district based social workers to facilitate an emergency response focused on strengthening disaster preparedness and resilience building, reducing hazard exposure, through PSS mainstreaming in humanitarian situations in 8 districts in Zimbabwe. The individuals who should be psychosocial support specialists will be based at the following districts: Binga, Rushinga, Epworth, Chitungwiza, Mwenezi, Chivi, Mudzi, and Gokwe North with extensive travel within the focus districts.
Job description
The District Social Worker will be expected to: Support technically the assessment of children’s needs in humanitarian situation in the district of operation; Facilitate access to psycho-social support, access to Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM), SRHR information, prevention of sexual abuse and exploitation; Coordinate the capacity strengthening activities on disaster preparedness, reduced exposure of children to harm and resilience building at district level; Support integration of PSS and CPiE, into education and health service for vulnerable children in 8 districts; Coordinate and monitor activities in the assigned districts; Effectively communicate program expectations to district stakeholders.
Qualifications
A degree in Social Work, or equivalent Social Sciences; Minimum three (3) years of relevant work experience; Up to date registration with the Council of Social Workers; Practical field experience in development contexts; Practical experience in training and/or facilitation of groups; Experience in programme design, implementation, M&E and research for psychosocial support; Work experience with large NGOs, government departments and/or international cooperating partners; Prepared to travel to difficult to reach areas; Written and spoken proficiency in English and the mother tongue of the desired district.
