Purpose of the Job To assist the Flight Operations Safety Specialist in the implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS) to meet requirements towards establishment of a positive safety culture within the organization in compliance to regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Principal Responsibilities and Accountabilities (Key Performance Areas) •Maintains and ensure that BP safety office is actively manned and running on fulltime basis. •Perform data analysis and collates standard reports and recommendations to management. •Undertake to act and function as the core person for receiving and acting upon safety reports, information and other safety correspondences addressed to BP safety. •Receive and record ASRs, incident/hazard reports submitted by personnel (staff) from different BP operational areas. •Carry out the day to day functions of the Flight Operations Safety Specialist on his behalf in his absence in the office. •Review log entries in the voyage/journey reports, determine if they address issues of safety concern and raise hazard/incident reports accordingly if needed so. •Carry out risk assessment process to hazards/incidents reported or captured, determine their risk levels and hence the period within which they should be dealt with (closed). •Conduct safety audits at different airports which are or intended to be of destination of BP flights. •Conduct in-house SMS awareness training to staff as required by procedure. •Participate fully in preparing and developing BP safety documents as required for complying with regulatory and other international standards and best practices. •Accompany the Head of QSE or Flight Operations Safety Specialist in attending safety forums organized by regulator or other organizations so as to have continuous knowledge and exposure to current issues of safety that may be of impact to BP operations. •In conjunction with departmental safety focal persons, make a follow up of hazard/incident reports forwarded to responsible managers to ensure that mitigation and closure process is accomplished within the specified period. •Work together with the Head of QSE and the Flight Operations Safety Specialist in preparing and issuing BP safety bulletins periodically as part of the means of implementing safety communication. •Establish and maintains a formal method of safety communication weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually. •Participate in preparations and monitoring of division budget and reports as directed by Head of QSE
Requirements
Minimum Education required A recognized Diploma or Degree in Engineering or equivalent with B1/B2 license or Commercial Pilot’s License (CPL) with 1000 Flight Hours. Minimum Experience required At least 4 years’ experience in the field of Aircraft Maintenance or Flight Operations. Formal training or certification as a Quality Auditor, Safety Management Systems and basic training in Risk Management will be an added advantage.
