Parallel and Distributed Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Software Quality Assurance.

Security.

5.1 Department of Chemistry and Earth Sciences
5.1.1 Mineralogist
Responsibilities

● To teach Mineralogy courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
● Applicants should have a good Masters Degree in Mineralogy/Crystallography.
● A PhD degree in the relevant field is an added advantage.
● Excellent knowledge of chemistry, crystal structure, and physical (including optical)
properties of minerals and mineralised artefacts.
● Familiarity with microscopes, XRD, XRF and scanning electro-microscopes and microprobes
is essential

 

5.1.2 Economic Geologist
Responsibilities

● To teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
● To initiate, guide and contribute to applied research programmes in the Department
● To co-ordinate and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students, field trips
and industrial attachments across the country
Qualifications, Experience and Attributes

● Applicants should have a good Masters Degree in Economic/Ore Deposit Geology with
special training in formation of ore deposits including ore microscopy and/ exploration of
such deposits
● A PhD degree in the relevant field is an added advantage.
● Experience of geological environments similar to Zimbabwe.

5.1.3 Igneous Petrologist
Responsibilities

● To teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
● To initiate, guide and contribute to applied research programmes in the Department
● To co-ordinate and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students, field trips
and industrial attachments across the country

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
● Applicants should have good undergraduate and Masters Degrees in Geology
● A PhD degree in the relevant field is an added advantage.
● Excellent knowledge of petrogenesis of igneous rocks.

5.1.4 Metamorphic Petrologist
Responsibilities

● To teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
● To initiate, guide and contribute to applied research programmes in the Department
● To co-ordinate and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students, field trips
and industrial attachments across the country

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes

● Excellent knowledge of metamorphic processes in all terrains.

 

5.1.5 Geostatistician/Mineral Economist
Responsibilities
● To teach Geostatistics and Mineral Economics at both undergraduate and postgraduate
levels.
● To initiate, guide and contribute to applied research programmes in the Department
● To co-ordinate and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students, field trips
and industrial attachments across the country

5.1.6 Palaeontologist/Stratigrapher
Responsibilities

● To teach Geochemistry courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
● To initiate, guide and contribute to applied research programmes in the Department
● To co-ordinate and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students, field trips
and industrial attachments across the country

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
● Applicants should have good undergraduate and Masters Degrees in Geology

● Be conversant with palaeontology, geoheritage and stratigraphy

5.1.7 Hydrogeologist/Rock Mechanics/Mining Geology

● To teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
● To initiate, guide and contribute to applied research programmes in the Department
● To co-ordinate and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students, field trips
and industrial attachments across the country

● Be conversant with hydrogeology, rock mechanics and mine geology.

 

5.1.8 Exploration Geologist
Responsibilities

● To teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
● To initiate, guide and contribute to applied research programmes in the Department
● To co-ordinate and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students and
industrial attachments across the country

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
● Applicants should have good undergraduate and Masters Degrees in Geology
● A PhD degree in the relevant field is an added advantage.
● Be conversant with geological exploration techniques and be able to run field courses
● An excellent knowledge of state of the art use of geophysical equipment is an added
advantage.

5.1.9 Geometallurgist
Responsibilities
● To teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
● To initiate, guide and contribute to applied research programmes in the Department
● To co-ordinate and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students, field trips
and industrial attachments across the country

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
● Applicants should have good undergraduate and Masters Degrees in Geology
● A PhD degree in Economic Geology/Ore Deposit Geology/Mineralogy/Process
Mineralogy/Geometallurgy or other relevant fields is an added advantage.
● Familiarity with balneology is an added advantage.

5.1.10 Applied Geology
Responsibilities
● To teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
● To initiate, guide and contribute to applied research programmes in the Department
● To co-ordinate and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students, field trips
and industrial attachments across the country

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
● Applicants should have good undergraduate and Masters Degrees in Geology
● A PhD in the relevant fields is an added advantage.

● Be conversant with petrochemistry, fundamentals of geology, and ore resources for
metallurgy.

5.1.11 Structural Geologist
Responsibilities
● To teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
● To provide academic leadership to the Department, and to initiate, guide and contribute to
basic and applied research programmes in the Department.
● To co-ordinate and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students, field trips
and industrial attachments across the country

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
● Applicants should have good undergraduate degree in Geology
● An MSc/Mphil degree in Structural Geology/Tectonics. Applicants should have majored in a
structural geology or rock mechanics project at Masters Degree level.
● A PhD in the relevant fields is an added advantage.
● Experience of the geology in tectonic environments is an added advantage.

5.1.12 Geochemist/Medical Geologist
Responsibilities
● To teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
● To provide academic leadership to the Department, and to initiate, guide and contribute to
basic and applied research programmes in the Department.
● To co-ordinate and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students, field trips
and industrial attachments across the country
Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
● Applicants should have good undergraduate and Masters Degrees in Geology
● A PhD in the relevant fields is an added advantage.
● An excellent research record in the area of geochemistry and geochronology

5.1.13 Sedimentary Petrologist/Sedimentologist
Responsibilities
● To teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
● To provide academic leadership to the Department, and to initiate, guide and contribute to
basic and applied research programmes in the Department.
● To co-ordinate and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students, field trips
and industrial attachments across the country

 

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
Applicants should have a good undergraduate degree in Geology:
● An MSc/Mphil degree in Sedimentology.
● A PhD in the relevant fields is an added advantage.
● Experience in sedimentary environments(s) such as Karoo basins of Southern Africa and with
petrographic training.
● Experience in geological environments similar to Zimbabwe, some
publications/presentations to workshops/seminars are added advantages.
● Strong background training and experience in other disciplines such as structural geology,
tectonics, igneous petrology that enhance understanding of economic deposits such as
hydrocarbons (coal, methane, natural gas, petroleum).

5.1.14 Computer Geologist
Responsibilities
● To teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
● To provide academic leadership to the Department, and to initiate, guide and contribute to
basic and applied research programmes in the Department.
● To co-ordinate and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students, field trips
and industrial attachments across the country

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
● Applicants should have good undergraduate degree in Geology
● An MSc/MPhil degree in Exploration Geology/Remote Sensing and GIS/Natural Resource
Management and Application or other relevant fields.
● A PhD in the relevant fields is an added advantage.
● Be conversant with computer orebody modelling packages and have the ability to maintain
and service computers
● An excellent knowledge of remote sensing and GIS applications in geological sciences will be
an added advantage.

5.2 Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Sciences
5.2.1 Nutrition and Dietetics
Responsibilities
● To teach Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Service courses at both undergraduate and
postgraduate levels.
● To supervise postgraduate and undergraduate research projects
● To research and publish scholarly articles in peer reviewed journals
● To provide administrative and community services
● To nurture innovation among students

● To actively participate in the implementation of the University’s innovation and
industrialisation strategy.

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
● Good undergraduate and Masters Degrees in Nutrition/ Dietetics/Nutrition and Dietetics or
other relevant fields
● A PhD in the relevant fields is an added advantage
● Registration with the Allied Health Practitioners Council or other approved councils in the
case of foreign applicants
