1. VICE-CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE 

1.1 INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Software Programmer (1 Post)

Experience
Applicants must have experience in software development as well as possess extensive knowledge in programming languages such as C#, C++, Java, Python, PHP and Android. Practical knowledge in API design and deployment is essential. The successful candidate must be conversant with the full systems development life cycle; have a thorough working knowledge of MySQL, Oracle or SQL Server database development tools.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Translates requirements into design specifications for systems.
  • Application testing and making modifications.
  • Participates in full systems development life cycle on small to mid-sized projects.
  • Monitor and evaluate system performance, writing and implementing efficient code.
  • User support and training.

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must possess at least a Diploma in Information Technology/Computer Science/Electronics and three (3) years relevant post-qualification experience.

1.2 AGRO-INNOVATION HUB AND INDUSTRIAL PARK
Farm Supervisor (1 Post)

The Farm Supervisor is responsible for the following;

  • Supervising of staff in animal husbandry and crop husbandry therefore leadership skills are highly beneficial.
  • Ensuring tasks are carried out as per plan.
  • Ensuring that farm security, safety and cleanliness are monitored and maintained.
  • Reporting to the manager on a day to day farm activities and progress plan.
  • Supplying data for report compilation.
  • Ensuring deadlines are met for activities like planting, harvesting, etc
  • Monitoring staff roasters, hours and performances and attend to workers grievances.
  • Overseeing the work of enterprises and suggests improvements and changes.
  • Ensuring and enforcing compliance with government regulations, health and safety standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Diploma in Agriculture.
  • At least three (3) years hands on and demonstrable experience in both animal and crop husbandry.
  • Excellent interpersonal, project and people management skills.
  • The ability to command and be a team leader is necessary.

Farm Clerk (1 Post)

The Farm Clerk is responsible for the following;

  • Proper record keeping and filing.
  • Recording all data into software in accordance with weekly and monthly returns.
  • Managing and advising management on stock levels.
  • Compiling orders in liaison with other offices.
  • Receipting and Reconciliation of farm produce and cash received.
  • Day to day farm administration.
  • Stores management and items issuance.

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Five (5) Ordinary Level Passes including English Language and Mathematics/Principles of Accounts.
  • A National Certificate in Agriculture.
  • At least one (1) year experience in the agricultural and accounting field.
  • Strong written and verbal skills a must.
  • Knowledge of various agricultural enterprises like beef, small ruminants, monogastrics and crop and fodder production is an added advantage.

1.3    SECURITY SECTION
Security Officer (I Post)

Qualifications 

  • Applicants must have at least a diploma in Risk and Security Management/ Police/Prosecution Studies/Law and Policing from a recognised Tertiary Institution.
  • A Degree in Risk and Security Management/ Police Studies/ Law and Policing or Social Science is an added advantage.
  • Five (5) ordinary level passes including English Language

Experience and Qualities

  • Candidates must possess at least five (5) years’ experience of which two (2) years must be at a supervisory position in the security services sector.
  • The candidate must be a team player, honest, mature, professional, and hardworking. Comprehensive understanding of physical security systems is a must.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervision of security guards in shift systems through Sergeants;
  • Promoting lawful behaviour of students and staff on campus;
  • Carrying out investigations;
  • Producing reports of criminal cases that may arise;
  • Carrying out searches, patrols and premise inspections;
  • Assisting in the development of training plans/programmes and conducting security staff training;
  • Records management and maintenance of discipline within the shift;
  • Carrying out security and risk management awareness campaigns and comprehensive security surveys and make recommendations to superiors;
  • Advising Superiors on matters of security concern;
  • Parading security detail;
  • Attending to requests for security guard deployments within the University.

Sergeant (1 Post)

Qualifications and Experience

  • Applicants must have at least a certificate in Risk and Security Management/ Police Studies/Prosecution Studies/Law and Policing from a recognised Tertiary Institution.
  • A Diploma in Security Management/ Police Studies/ Law and Policing is an added advantage.
  • Five (5) ordinary level passes including English Language.
  • Applicants should have at least two (2) years supervisory experience in a security environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervision of security guards;
  • Carrying out preliminary investigations to criminal cases and other security breaches;
  • Scheduling Security Guards’ shifts and maintenance of shift attendance records
  • Carrying out searches, patrols and securing premises;
  • Training and development of subordinates;
  • Carrying out security campaigns and security surveys;
  • Giving evidence in court and disciplinary proceedings;
  • Parading of security guards, performing foot drills.

Security Guard (13 Posts)

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Five (5) Ordinary level passes including English Language.
  • Certificate in Security Management/ Police Studies/Law and Policing/ Prosecution.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the security field.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Campus Security Services Sergeant.
  • Mans the Gatehouse, Public Enquiries Counter (PEC).
  • Receives reports from complainants and records statements.
  • Makes and maintains daily Occurrence Book records.
  • Makes follow-ups on crime-threats and high risks areas on campus.
  • Oversees the establishment and enforcement of access-control systems.
  • Monitors all access-control facilities within campus.
  • Ensures the safety and security of all staff, students and visitors on Campus at all times.
  • Capacity to handle confidential information a requisite
  • Monitors and controls problem animals within campus premises.
  • Performs all loss control duties.
  • Conducts stop and search duties, and BEAT roving patrols as necessary.
  • Performs crowd control duties and maintain campus order.
  • Hoists and lowers flags daily and timeously.
  • Performs any other duties assigned by the Sergeant.

1.4 REGISTRAR’S OFFICE
Assistant Registrar, University Secretariat (1 Post)

Job Summary
The Assistant Registrar of University should possess a deep understanding of the University governance system as well as be a person of unquestionable integrity with an excellent grasp of the English language and demonstrable outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities 

The Assistant Registrar will be responsible for: –

  • Producing a database of minutes and ensuring that meeting records are properly filed and are easily retrievable as and when required.
  • Liaising with and advising committee chairs and secretaries on matters of fact,protocol, precedent, procedure and regulation.
  • Ensuring adherence to the diary of committee meetings and to University standards of servicing committees.
  • Co-ordinating servicing of University Committees.
  • Ensuring that committee decisions are implemented timeously.
  • Co-ordinating training of committee secretaries.

      Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate should possess: –

  • A first degree in any of the following areas: Media Studies/Journalism/English, English and Communication/Public Administration/Office Administration
  • At least three years (3) experience in the secretarial and administrative field in a tertiary environment.

Faculty Liaison Officer, Faculty of Engineering and the Environment (1 Post)

Qualifications 

  • A first degree from a reputable University.

Experience and Qualities

  • At least one (1) year post qualification experience at a tertiary institution.
  • Hard working and should also demonstrate high level of integrity and honesty.
  • Excellent technical, analytical, problem solving, communication, consultative, multi-tasking and team-working skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting in preparation of the Faculty degree regulations and amendments for publication.
  • Maintenance and presentation of statistical information.
  • Assisting in the preparation of Faculty advertisements, processing of applications and servicing of Selection Boards.
  • Dealing with questions on any and every University topics from members of the Faculty.
  • Preparation and publication of Faculty brochures or publicity material.
  • Assisting in the preparation of applications for research and general (teaching/equipment) grants.
  • Ensuring that recommendations of the Faculty are duly submitted to the competent authorities and that the University’s decisions and policies are observed throughout the Faculty.

Chief Secretary (1 Post)

Qualifications 

  • A minimum of a National Diploma in Secretarial Studies (HEXCO).
  • At least five (5) Ordinary Level Passes including English Language. 

Experience and Qualities 

  • A minimum of five (5) years relevant post qualification experience in a similar position preferably in a tertiary setting.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.
  • Able to work under pressure with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good organisation skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters.
  • Excellent attention to detail, including proof reading skills and the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Acts as a first point of contact for the Student Affairs Division and manages communication including highly confidential information.
  • Planning and diarising appointments for the Dean of Students.
  • Typing and filing correspondence for the Division.
  • Distributing internal correspondence generated in the office.
  • Organising departmental meetings and taking minutes.
  • Requesting and collecting stationery for the Division.
  • Performing any other related tasks as assigned from time to time by the Supervisor.

4. STUDENT AFFAIRS DIVISION
Nursing Sister (1 Post)
     

Qualifications 

  • A Diploma in General Nursing and a current practicing certificate with Nurses Council of Zimbabwe.
  • A post basic qualification in any one of the following is an added advantage : Midwifery, Family Planning, Counselling, HIV and Aids Education

Experience and Qualities 

  • A minimum of one (1) year post basic qualification experience.
  • Working experience with students is an added advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serving the University community.
  • Conducting health awareness programs.
  • Performing assessment of a patient’s condition.
  • Administering medication and injections.
  • Correctly using different medical equipment.
  • Handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Providing counselling services.

5. LIBRARY DEPARTMENT
Chief Library Assistant (1 Post)

Duties and Responsibilities

The Chief Library Assistant will be responsible for;

  • Cataloguing and classification of Library materials.
  • Assisting with Information literacy skills training and orientation of new students.
  • Uploading all research publications produced by the Gwanda State University Community to the University Institutional Repository.
  • Assisting in organising library training programmes for students and staff.
  • Providing general customer service support.
  • Performing shelving and shelf reading duties.
  • Performing circulation duties.

            Qualifications

  • Higher National Diploma in Library and Information Science plus two (2) years academic library experience.
