Lecturer in isiXhosa-English Language and Literacy Education (Ref 3343)

The University of Fort Hare seeks to appoint an appropriately qualified and experienced candidate for the vacant position.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Doctoral degree in Education (PhD or D.Ed.) with a focus on or specialization in literacy or language education.
  • Professional teaching qualification.
  • Research experience supported by a publication record in DHET-accredited journals.
  • A minimum of five years teaching bilingual (isiXhosa & English) literacy and language at the primary school level, Foundation Phase.

THE FOLLOWING COMPETENCIES WILL BE A FURTHER ADVANTAGE:

  • Experience teaching (or supporting teachers) in isiXhosa (or related Nguni) medium of instruction foundation phase classrooms.
  • Experience in developing isiXhosa & English bilingual curriculum and materials
  • Ability to mentor classroom teachers in home language literacy in the foundation phase.
  • Experience in designing, implementing and evaluating teacher professional development (both initial teacher education and/or in-service teacher education.)

Snr Lecturer/Lecturer – Commerce Eduction

Minimum requirements and competencies:

  • Relevant degree in Education with specialisation in Accounting/Economics/Business Studies (Lecturer Master’s, Senior Lecturer Doctoral)
  • A professional teaching qualification
  • Experience in teaching Accounting/Economics/Business Studies in Higher Education commensurate with the academic rank
  • A track record of research and publications in accredited national and internationally recognised research journals within the areas of Accounting, Economics and Business
  • Evidence of postgraduate supervision experience
  • Evidence of academic leadership

Duties:

  • To teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in the area of Accounting/Economics/Business Studies, and any Education Studies Modules
  • To take part in issues of curriculum renewal

  • To engage in community outreach and collaborative

Duties:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Mathematics and any other courses assigned to you by the Head of the Department.

  • Attract research funding.
  • Supervise BSc Honours, MSc and PhD students.
  • Participate in community engagement.

Senior Administrator

JOB PURPOSE:

To provide administrative, business and secretarial support to the Dean: of Student Affairs and other staff within the Student Affairs division viz. Disability Unit, Health Care Centre, HIV/AIDS Unit, Residence department, Student Counseling Unit, Sports and Recreation department and Student Development and Governance. Working collaboratively with Student Affairs staff to ensure integrated service provision to the University community. Provide high-quality service and advice that is proactive and solution-focused and responsive to customer needs.


REQUIREMENTS:             

  • A three-year qualification in office management/administration
  • Minimum of three years of secretarial and or administration skills in an institution of higher learning.
  • Knowledge of ITS system

COMPETENCIES:

  • Planning & organizational skills
  • Ability to develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.

DUTIES:

  • Manage, coordinate and improve the administration of the Student Affairs division, Committees, Units and departments
  • Receive visitors to the department on behalf of the Dean and other members of the Student Affairs team and meet and greets special guests.
  • Screen Dean’s telephone calls and redirect urgent calls to senior managers in the Dean’s absence.
  • Manage Dean’s diary.
  • Attend to reception and general telephone enquiries and when necessary refer matters to relevant Student affairs departments
  • Answer telephones, screen callers and relay messages.
  • Provide secretarial services at the divisional staff meetings, maintain an accurate record of proceedings and provide meeting minutes.
  • Coordinate internal and external communication and correspondence.
  • Prepare general and confidential correspondence and reports, and prepare relevant documentation for presentations and briefings using word processing and other software.
  • Maintain and update e-mail groups, telephone lists
  • Coordinates website updates.
  • Type Committee agendas and minutes.
  • Compile and type reports.
  • Assure confidentiality and document security
  • Plan and organised events in the division
  • Manage all office activities including coordination of workshops and other events.
  • Distribute and deal appropriately with incoming and outgoing mail for the Department
  • Checks availability of office supplies and equipment compiles requisitions, and orders and receives and shelves stock.
  • Ensure economical use of office stationery and equipment.
  • Provide guidance to students on the proper use of office equipment / electronic machines. Contact and liaise with suppliers for equipment quotations and general issues.
  • Provide assistance with budget preparation for the department.
  • NB: The position would be based in Alice although the incumbent will be expected to render services at all University of Fort Hare Campuses

REQUIREMENTS:

  • M+3 Years Qualification in office management/administration or any related field;
  • 1-2 years experience in a University Administration set up
  • Good working knowledge of the Microsoft package
  • Knowledge of the ITS system

COMPETENCIES

  • Provide administrative support to the Residence Manager and Residence Department.
  • Assist In organizing Departmental programmes
  • Assist Residence Manager through minute taking, coordinating Departmental meetings compilation of budget, expenditure, monthly and quarterly reports
  • Assist the office with the management of annual and sick leaves for staff.
