At the Commonwealth Secretariat, we’re offering an exceptional opportunity within our Communications Division for a dedicated Communications Officer. In this role, you will be at the forefront of implementing the Commonwealth Secretariat’s Strategic Communications Strategy, a cornerstone of our broader Strategic Plan. Your mission: to ensure the effective presentation of our organization’s extensive scope of work to our key target audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Thematic Communication Leadership
    • Oversee communications for one or more of the Secretariat’s thematic work areas.
    • Advise program divisions on media strategy and shape the communications and profile of your assigned area.
  2. Global Engagement
    • Contribute to media strategy development and engagement during official visits by the Commonwealth Secretary-General to member countries.
    • Accompany senior officials on official missions, providing on-the-ground communications support.
  3. Media Spotlight
    • Identify media opportunities that showcase the Commonwealth Secretariat’s impactful work.
    • Contribute to compelling social media content.
  4. Messaging Mastery
    • Draft statements and materials to consistently convey the Commonwealth’s values.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you should possess:

  • A degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, International Affairs, or a related field.
  • A minimum of four years of experience as a reporter or correspondent in a media organization, or in an external communications role.

Candidates with a master’s degree or post-graduate qualification in journalism or a related field, or experience in covering political, parliamentary, social, or economic issues, will have an added advantage. For complete details, please refer to the job description.
