CARE’s Call for a Project Team Leader in Zimbabwe

CARE, a leading international humanitarian organization, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Project Team Leader for the anticipated USAID-funded Agriculture Private Sector Activity in Zimbabwe. This crucial position aims to strengthen the private sector’s capacity to implement climate-smart agricultural technologies and practices in rural areas. This initiative will not only enhance farm production but also empower smallholder farmers by providing them with the necessary knowledge and skills to adopt these sustainable farming methods. The Project Overview

The USAID-funded Agriculture Private Sector Activity in Zimbabwe is expected to be a five-year program with an estimated budget in the range of $8 to $10 million. Its primary objective is to promote climate-smart agricultural practices and technologies, making rural farming more resilient and productive. This endeavour will involve close collaboration with private sector partners, which is crucial for implementing these innovative approaches effectively.

Primary Responsibilities

The Project Team Leader will play a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the program. Their responsibilities include:

  1. Overseeing the overall management and implementation of the project, ensuring that results and deliverables align with the project work plan.
  2. Translating project goals and objectives into actionable strategies and plans, in partnership with project staff and private sector partners.
  3. Managing operational, financial, and administrative priorities while ensuring adherence to CARE and project policies.
  4. Cultivating strong, mutually beneficial private sector partnerships and ensuring their successful participation in the project.
  5. Building and maintaining productive relationships with USAID clients, project partners, and key counterparts.
  6. Mentoring and coaching staff for professional development and to ensure the achievement of project goals.
  7. Supervising the key technical team members and ensuring synergy and continuity across different project offices.
  8. Acting as the primary liaison between CARE and the donor, being accountable for the achievement of results and maintaining the highest standard of service quality.
  9. Supervising staff and partners in identifying the project’s technical assistance needs, recruiting consultants, and executing technical assistance contracts.
  10. Designing and overseeing the annual project cycle in accordance with USAID’s annual planning cycle.
  11. Directing planning and budgeting processes and preparing quarterly and annual project activity reports.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, candidates should meet the following qualifications:

  1. A Master’s degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant field, such as MSc, MPH, MBA, MHA, MPA, or equivalent.
  2. At least 10 years of progressively responsible senior experience in international development, with a strong background as a Project Team Leader or senior manager on development or humanitarian relief projects.
  3. Demonstrated experience in capacity development and systems strengthening, particularly in the context of local governance.
  4. In-depth knowledge of agricultural development, including crop production, livestock, and value chain development, with a focus on working with the private sector in Zimbabwe.
  5. Familiarity with sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture practices, along with a track record of implementing programs focused on climate resilience and sustainability.
  6. Prior experience managing USAID-funded or similarly sized projects, ideally in a leadership role.
  7. Strong abilities in recruiting, training, developing, and managing staff.
  8. Proficiency in managing agreements and fulfilling programmatic and financial reporting requirements.
  9. Effective written and communication skills in English.
  10. A commitment to principles of Gender Equity, Diversity, Belonging, and Inclusion, as well as the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Harassment (PSEAH).
  11. Willingness to travel within Zimbabwe as required, including between CARE Zimbabwe’s home office in Harare and the provinces of Matabeleland North, Masvingo, and Manicaland.
