Job Opportunity: Programme Analyst – Women’s Economic Empowerment
Location: Harare, Zimbabwe
Contract Type: Full-time, office-based consultancy
Duration: September 2024 – September 2025

Background/Context:
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality outlined in the UN Charter, works to eliminate discrimination against women and girls, promote women’s empowerment, and achieve gender equality. Economic empowerment is a key pathway to achieving these goals, especially for women facing multiple forms of discrimination.

In Zimbabwe, despite efforts, many women remain marginalized in economic development with limited income security, few decent work opportunities, and reduced economic autonomy. This situation has been exacerbated by Zimbabwe’s socio-economic decline, driven by factors such as economic volatility, deindustrialization, inflation, the COVID-19 pandemic, and climate change crises. Additionally, financing for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) initiatives has dwindled.

In response, UN Women Zimbabwe collaborates with stakeholders—including the private sector, government, development partners, and others—to empower women to participate meaningfully in economic opportunities. To support this, the Country Office is seeking a Programme Analyst to assist in implementing Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Research and Thought Leadership Support:
    • Provide substantive inputs to policy briefs, research reports, and presentations on women’s economic empowerment.

    • Visit project sites to provide onsite technical support.
    • Draft reports on programme outcomes, including donor and UN Women reports.
    • Advise on legal considerations and risk assessments for WEE initiatives.
  4. Deliverables:
    • Timely support for WEE projects: September 2024 – September 2025 (25% of contract value).
    • Quarterly progress reports: Every quarter from September 2024 – September 2025 (70% of contract value).
