About CNFA and Amalima Loko
CNFA is a US-based non-profit nongovernmental organization (NGO) that works to stimulate economic growth and improve rural livelihoods in the developing world through five core capabilities: (1) Productivity, Food Security and Nutrition; (2) Input Supply and Farm Services; (3) Economic Resilience and Rapid Recovery; (4) Value Chain Development; and (5) Volunteer Technical Assistance. Amalima Loko is a new USAID-funded 5-year program implemented by CNFA and 5 partner organizations which applies community-driven approaches to improve food security, nutrition, and natural resource management in over 80 communal wards in Matabeleland North.
Position Summary
The VS&L Coordinator will be within the Amalima Loko technical team. S/he will be responsible for implementing program activities aimed at mobilizing communities to form and participate in VS&L activities and save towards investment in productive assets and meeting other household requirements. The VS&L Coordinator will report directly to the Food Security Technical Coordinator.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement the Amalima Loko VS&L strategy; Design and implement context specific and sustainable VS&L activities in the Amalima target districts; Train field officers, cluster facilitators and VS&L groups on the VS&L methodology, including constitution making, group dynamics and conflict resolution; Train field officers, cluster facilitators and VS&L groups on selection, planning and management (SPM) for income generation projects.
Train VS&L groups in financial literacy and technical areas in support of their income generating activities;
Work with Amalima Loko Technical Coordinators in Agriculture, Livestock, Natural resources Management, WASH and Nutrition and Technical Field Officers to mainstream VS&L activities across all Amalima Loko interventions;
Work with Amalima Loko Technical Coordinators and field officers and stakeholders to mobilize communities into forming new VS&L groups and participating in existing groups;
Collaborate with relevant Government departments, NGOs and other stakeholders in the districts to ensure that VS&L program objectives are met.
Work with Gender Specialist and Youth entrepreneurship Coordinator to mainstream gender in VS&L activities and promote equality, women empowerment and male participation;
Work with VS&L groups and assist them to save towards predetermined objectives;
Promote use of mobile money systems for conducting business transactions and saving;
Facilitates learning visits and discussions between VS&L groups for cross fertilization of ideas and sharing of experiences;
Work with VC Marketing Coordinator to assist VS&L groups to market products generated through their income generating activities;
Engage with M&L Lead on program impact data collection, developing and implementing management information system (MIS) and research opportunities.
Be responsible of VS&L activity implementation, monitoring, evaluation, documentation and dissemination of success stories and best practices;
Produce reports as required by the program in line with donor requirements;
Perform any other duties as directed and assigned by the Food Security Technical Coordinator.
Qualifications
Degree in Business studies, Economics, Agribusiness/Agriculture or any other relevant qualification;
At least five years of experience managing projects, mobilizing communities; and organizing and delivering trainings in VS&L and IGAs;
Experience in USAID-funded program(s) and DFAP experience are highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirement
Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders both verbally and in writing;
Demonstrated ability to collaborate, willingness to innovate and ability to think systematically;
Proven experience in managing multiple and competing tasks while maintaining quality of deliverables within deadlines.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is essential. Basic proficiency in spoken IsiNdebele required. Proficiency in other languages spoken in Matabeleland North strongly preferred.
