Scope of work

The International Rescue Committee is currently implementing a UNDP funded ZRBF under the PROGRESS Consortium in Beitbridge and Nyanga districts. The project focuses on a mix of irrigation; mechanization; climate smart agriculture; high value cash crops; fodder crops; livestock; and non-timber forest products, tailored to the individual climatic, geographic and market characteristics of the target wards. This includes elements of access to finance, technology and innovation, infrastructure and markets, gender equality and governance among major focus areas.

Purpose

To generate GIS maps for projects as per asset type for Nyanga and Beitbridge and visually present their interface with major hazards (Floods, Human Wildlife Zones etc) and major infrastructure (access roads, and community amenities) to advise decision making.

Specific responsibilities

  • Validation of Program Assets GPS Coordinates Database-Collection and updating of the GPS database;
  • Generate hard and soft copies of Program Asset Maps;
  • Encouraged Deliverables-Production of Comprehensive Asset Maps per asset type;
  • Develop hard copies to be shared with government departments;
  • Update the Program CPS Coordinate Database;
  • Prepare and submit timely quality internal project reports on activities, detailing the progress and achievement (indicators supervising), the challenges faced and how they were tackled and recommendations for subsequent months;
  • Grant Management and compliance-The consultant will be governed by the IRC operation procedures in their conduct during the duration of the consultancy;
  • Supervising and Reporting-The Consultant will work under the supervision of the ZRBF Program Manager.

Qualifications

  • PhD/MSc in Geo-Information Science, Remote Sensing with application in Applied Hydrology, Natural Resources Management and Disaster Risk Management or related

Job Requirements

Minimum 5 years’ experience in GIS, Remote Sensing, and map generation;

  • Able to utilize various GIS software like QGIS, ArcGIS, IIwis among others;
  • Demonstration of pre and post processing of data acquired using GPS machines is a must;
  • Proficiency in training professionals in GIS and mapping is a requirement.
