Please note that the duties and responsibilities of an academic member of staff at Midlands State University are grouped into 5 main categories, which are:


(a) Teaching – the incumbent is expected to teach or deliver lectures in accordance to the Department and or Faculty guidelines and standards.


(b) University Service and Community Engagement – the incumbent should participate in all Department/ Faculty/School and University activities such as attending meetings, training workshops, conferences and seminars, among others.

TEMPORARY FULL TIME ETHNOMUSICOLOGY LECTURER – TWO-YEAR CONTRACT (GWERU CAMPUS) (1 Post)




The candidate should have at least a master’s degree in music from a recognized university, a PhD will be an added advantage. The prospective candidate should possess:


Indigenous African Musical practices and African musical instruments,

Theories of African Music

Ability to teach wind instruments

Demonstrate understanding of music business operations in the music industry

Duties and Responsibilities


Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars.

Developing curricula and course material that can be used across a number of platforms.

Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base.

Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams.

Conducting research, and writing papers, proposals, journal articles, and books.

Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution.

Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution.

Providing support to students and other colleagues.

Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field.
