We are currently looking for an Technical Services Manager in Cape Town to ensure Data Centre and IT Node (Critical Engineering) infrastructure services are maintained and operational to service standards specified. Services include: Electrical ( HV, MV and LV ), HVAC, Fire detection, Fire protection, UPS, Standby power generation, refrigeration and all issues pertaining to compliance, governance and the statutory acts legislated from the Client and Government.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesEngineering

The Technical Services Manager is responsible for ensuring that all Plant, Equipment and Engineering Infra-structure within the Centre under his control belonging to the Client is properly operated and maintained. In order to achieve this objective the Technical Services manager will be required to:

• Execute the planned maintenance programme strategy to ensure business continuity incurs minimum downtime

• Proactively manage the maintenance process and identify potential equipment / asset failure or problems

• Investigate plant or equipment failure to establish root cause and recommend corrective actions.

• Initiate corrective action where omissions or failures occur

• Manage the planned preventative maintenance process and ensure that all work is carried out as per the planned maintenance plan;

• Provide recommendations and where necessary oversight to re-active maintenance work to ensure that all work is carried out as per the work order and or specification and that quality standards are maintained

• Ensure outputs of SLA and Management Contract are maintained

• Supervise re-active maintenance work to ensure that all work is carried out as per the work order and or specification and that quality standards are maintained


Supplier Management

• Supervise supplier reactive and planned maintenance work to ensure that all work is carried out as per the work order


Occupational Safety and Environmental Management

• Ensure that all activities conducted comply with Legislative requirements and/or client Standards

• Prepare Permits to work

• Preptare work method statements

• Ensure Safety meetings are held within the department and records kept


Financial Management

• Assist in the compilation of the 10-year Life cycle asset replacement programme.

• Evaluate and approve quotations as requested

• Adhere to Financial Controls and Procedures


Manage Human Resources

• Mange staff performance within the company guidelines and requirements of the LRA

• Manage staff activities to ensure acceptable quality of remedial / corrective maintenance is provided

• Ensure appropriate training needs of staff are identified and committed to a training programme

• Source and provide staff with PPE and tools

• Ensure staff induction programmes include critical SHE training, tool usage and safe lock out and working practices


Spares

• Identify spares and consumables which are required, procurement costs and manage minimum stock levels

Skills and Competencies• 3 - 5 years’ experience in a critical engineering maintenance environment

• Practical knowledge of Data Centre Systems and infrastructure

• Practical knowledge of the operation of emergency power systems

• Working knowledge of maintenance strategies emphasising Planned and Preventative techniques

• Computer literacy – MS Office

• Good understanding of client’s needs & SLA’s

• Knowledge of all tools and safe practises when using such tools

• Above average knowledge of general maintenance items, practises & procedures

• Proactive problem identification and resolving of failures.

• Ability to plan, organise and control work effort and key deliverables.

• Good understanding to write and manage Service Level agreements

• Good understanding to write technical reports

• Project management skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Attention to detail and good follow up skills

• Ability to work under pressure

• Project a professional and competent image at all times.

• Root cause analysis

Qualifications• Grade 12

• Technical qualification equating to a minimum NQF 6

• Valid driver’s license and own transport is essential
