Technical Field Manager, Zimbabwe (1 year fixed term contract)
Open to Zimbabwean nationals only
Salary package: Basic gross salary of 5000 USD per month + food allowance
Location: Mudzi District, Mashonaland East, Zimbabwe during deployment cycles.
About MAG:
MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.
About the Zimbabwe programme:
MAGโs Zimbabwe programme addresses the problems faced by mine-affected communities by providing efficient, effective and safe clearance of land. In Zimbabwe MAG undertakes minefield survey and clearance, EOD work (explosive ordnance disposal) and cluster munition clearance. This is supported and enhanced by MAGโs community liaison activities, including providing Risk Reduction Education (RRE) to the local population. In total the programme employs more than 70 staff.
About the role:
Our Technical Field Managers are the core of our work and actively manage and lead our teams of technical staff to safely implement our life saving mine clearance and EOD projects. They must be willing to lead from the front, responsible for the day-to-day management of our technical teams often in remote locations and being involved in all aspects of MAGโs lifesaving work, including administration, procurement, reporting and planning. The Zimbabwe TFM role is based for the majority of the time in remote field locations and therefore the ability to work autonomously and with demonstrable people management skills will be essential for this role. The life-saving impact the work has on local communities is very real, and rewarding. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in MAGโs life-saving work on a day-to-day basis and make a difference in Zimbabwe.
The TFM will be based at MAGs field camp during deployment cycles, which is in Mudzi District, Mashonaland East.
About you:
You must hold a recognised EOD / demining qualification or have significant experience in the technical and operational management and leadership of Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) activities. Technical knowledge of mines/SALW/unexploded ordnance and mine clearance techniques, including new developments is essential. This role requires the post holder to spend most of their time working in an environment with few amenities, and as the lead technical member of staff in the programme, the successful candidate will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstratable experience in leading, motivating, managing and training a diverse team. Previous experience of working in an international capacity is essential for this role.
