role PURPOSE Working in 50 developing countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas, Plan aims to reach as many children as possible, particularly those who are excluded or marginalised with high quality programs that deliver long lasting benefits. This job is responsible for providing technical and oversight the delivery of the BCC initiatives across projects in response to the COVID 19 emergency. Dimensions of the Role The SBCC Specialist position is humanitarian emergency position for Plan International Zimbabwe.  He/she will develop the SBCC Strategy for the COVID response, attend the National Level SBCC/Health Promotions Task Force Meetings convened by the Ministry of Health and Child Care; as well as any platforms convened for civil society contributing to generation and review of behaviour change communication information and (IEC) materials. This role will support the team in the generation of social media and radio messages relevant to children and young people particularly girls and young women in line with identified gaps in BCC for COVID 19 prevention. Ensure inclusion of SBCC approaches in all new program designs. This will include SBCC messaging to promote the uptake of health interventions, particularly COVID 19 prevention, care and treatment, among priority populations (including children, girls, young women, and other high risk groups). She/he will document the process, challenges, lessons learnt and best practices for improvements of SBCC interventions. The Incumbent will report directly to the Head of Programs. Manager Accountabilities
  1. Design and implement behavior change communication strategy, provision of training and technical assistance to support behavior change intervention
  2. Contribute to the development of external project communications materials, such as success stories and social media content
  3. Work in collaboration with key stakeholders including line Ministries and other civil society actors to develop community radio, drama, or other communication strategies to make information about Covid 19 available to specific targeted audiences.
  4. Support development of BCC strategies, materials, media messages, and implementation plans that reflect good practices.
  5. Collect information within and outside the organisation that will be used in communicating lessons learned and best practices.
  6. Ensure effective communications within the organization and with stakeholders at all levels.
  7. Assist in knowledge sharing and partner collaboration efforts and provide support to relevant technical working group
  8. Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Child Protection (CPP) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
Key relationships The SBCC Specialist will work closely with the COVID 19 Taskforce and will report to the Programs & Strategy Manager. Technical expertise, skills and knowledge Essential
  • Degree in Public Health/Social sciences orrelated discipline.
  • A Master’s Degree/post graduate qualification on development communication will be an added advantage
  • At least five years of experience in SBCC programs
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in behaviour change communication and training/capacity building; project documentation
  • A fair understanding of gender transformative programming is an added advantage
Desirable
  • Strong knowledge of effective   behavior change  communication and health promotion strategies and participatory approaches
  • Extensive experience in information education communication and targeting appropriate audiences
