Job Description:

In Australia only 12% of working engineers are women. Deakin knows women who are given the opportunity to succeed in Engineering they don't just contribute, they lead the pack. In the last 2 years, the School of Engineering has hired 11 female academics, with diverse career histories, who are building their careers at Deakin. We now have 15% female academic staff in the school of Engineering, and we intend to continue on our journey to improve our diversity. Deakin has also committed to the Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) Athena SWAN program, and our Action Plan to improve gender equity has a particular focus on women in engineering. Our analysis shows Mechatronics is our only discipline within the school still looking for a female staff member. Therefore, Deakin is inviting women only to apply for the Role of Senior Lecturer in Mechatronics. In this role, you will be teach engineering to our students using modern, digital teaching approaches, and also undertake research in Mechatronics, either individually or as part of a team, in an area that aligns with the School of Engineering’s research. Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Making a significant contribution to research in a specific area aligned with one of the research areas in the school, faculty, research centre or institute.
  • Demonstrating excellent scholarly learning and teaching across all levels and modes (including face to face teaching, teaching in the cloud, and in professional practice settings if appropriate).
  • Contributing to the supervision, management and timely completion of Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students.
  • Contributing individually and as part of the mechatronics team to the moderation and maintenance of academic standards, and the development of course and unit curriculum that exemplifies Deakin’s curriculum framework, additionally meeting external requirements including professional accreditation.
  • Designing and implementing best practice assessment and evidence of student learning outcomes at Unit and Course level, and leading assessment panels.
  • Providing leadership in teaching and learning through your roles as Unit Chair and other teaching related roles as required.
To be successful, you’ll have: Essential:
  • PhD in Mechatronics or a related relevant area.
  • Successful track record of attracting national industry research funding in Mechatronics, relative to opportunity.
  • Ability to contribute to the Faculty’s undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs in a manner that motivates and inspires students to learn, through both conventional teaching and Project Oriented Design Based Learning (PODBL) methods.
  • Ability to lead, develop and administer assessment regimes and provide feedback that fosters independent learning.
Desirable:
  • Experience in supervising PhD and Masters students.
  • Experience in leading the development of curricula and resources that reflect a design oriented approach to the understanding of Mechatronics Engineering.
