Introduction

A local non-government organisation working on anti-corruption and governance issues seeks to recruit a Research and Advocacy Officer to be based in Bulawayo.


Job purpose

The Research and Advocacy Officer will maintain a consistent relationship with targeted stakeholders ranging from policy makers to communities and community leaders, conduct presentations and various researches on the societal impacts, trends, drivers and changes related to corruption.


Main duties of the post

The officer will be responsible for assisting with the conceptualizing of various research topics; Identifies, develops and undertakes research into areas that can further the understanding the causes, drivers and trends of corruption to inform the social and political economy of the country; Conduct various types of research (quantitative and qualitative) as thematically defined; Design / prepare research plans, data collection instruments, reports and, tabulations; Participate in data collection processes and activities through interviews and focus group discussion or other data gathering techniques; Identify and prepare research training materials and tools as necessary for execution of specific research projects; Participate in the analysis of data writing and production of key research reports, publications and proposals; Participate in community outreach events including sharing research information, making public presentations to various stakeholders and providing feedback; Maintain regular contact with related institutions and network of target stakeholders; Design and recommend relevant advocacy platforms for dissemination of information; Profile and securely archive the research outputs both in text, pictorial and video as necessary; Provides results and recommendations towards programme development for the organization and its network of collaborators and partners; Research and write regular newsletter items; Monitor national policy developments advancing or affecting the work of the local organisation and the organisation’s responses to these developments; Researching, crafting and developing policy briefs for advocacy work; Prepare project reports and Contributes to timely and accurate financial reporting (liquidations) in line with organisational and donor requirements; Perform other duties from time to time as may be required by Head of Programmes and the Executive Director.


Minimum academic and professional qualifications

Bachelor of Arts / Social Science / Political Sciences or equivalent. A post-graduate / Master’s Degree in Development studies will be an added advantage.


Competencies and skills required

The incumbent must exhibit a high level of professionalism, maturity and a sense of good judgment; possess excellent communication skills (proficiency in Ndebele will be an added advantage); Good project management and presentation skills strictly required; have ability to read, analyse and simplify legal and policy documentation for communities; knowledge of /and considerable interest in corruption trends, good governance political reform, public sector reform, social justice and international development.
