Introduction
A leading network of human rights organisations in Zimbabwe, that advocate for the promotion and protection of human rights has an exciting new opening for a Programmes Coordinator. The Programmes Coordinator will lead programming of the organisation, including helping in developing and guiding the implementation of all programmes. This is a full - time position, starting December 2020. The position is based in Harare.
The ideal candidate shall have a minimum Mastersâ degree in Law or Social Sciences. He or she must possess excellent research and analytical skills, extensive knowledge of human rights law and transitional justice as well as excellent coordination skills. The candidate must have demonstrable experience in national, regional and international lobbying and advocacy, working for or extensively engaging with the state actors and civil society. We are looking for someone who is a leader, with strong interpersonal skills and passionate about human rights. He or she must be a team player, able to work with membership and keen on engaging in public advocacy and working in a collaborative way to deliver high quality work on time.
Responsibilities
Work closely with the Executive Director on Fundraising for the program activities of the organization;
Coordinate the membership and implementing strategies to strengthen, inform and motivate the same;
Help develop and guide the implementation of programmes;
Providing oversight on, and the actual implementation of programmes activities by the projects staff;
Monitor the impact of the organisationâs work and make sure that it remains relevant and strategic;
Supervising the planning and implementation of all the programmes activities, ensuring that outputs are accomplished and delivered according to the agreed work plan/s and timeframes;
Providing guidance and leadership in ensuring that all the programmes activities are aligned with organizational objectives and contribute to the mission and vision of the organization;
Providing guidance in ensuring that the implementation of project activities is aligned to the objective of the respective grant, and that the implementation is in accordance with the rules and regulations of the respective funding partner;
Spearheading all organizational programmatic activities, that is Public interest litigation; monitoring, research and advocacy;
lobbying and advocacy;
and transitional justice advocacy, citizens engagement and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements of all the grants;
Providing technical advice to the organization on program planning and implementation strategy;
Represent the organization in engagements with critical stakeholders, including government, civil society, funding partners and the diplomatic community; Draft periodic reports as may be required;
Spearheading the monitoring and evaluation of programmes activities, assessing impact and sustainability;
Carry out other appropriate responsibilities as requested by the Executive Director and/or the Board.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
A University Degree in Law or relevant Social Science Degree;
A holder of a postgraduate degree such as LLM, MBA or equivalent;
A minimum 5 years relevant experience in human rights advocacy including working in civil society, 2 years of which must have been at a senior managerial level;
Experience in research and reporting.
Critical or technical competencies required
Demonstrable commitment in human rights and rule of law;
Must have an excellent appreciation of local and global Human Rights related issues and trends;
Must have demonstrated experience in working in the civil society and understand the function in the broader political, social and economic process;
Excellent legal, political judgment and proven ability to develop and carry out innovative human rights advocacy strategies;
Demonstrated excellent analytical and writing competency;
Strong research and analytical skills;
Demonstrated knowledge and practice of advocacy techniques and strategies;
Sound organizational skills and the ability to manage conflicting demands and to meet deadlines;
Must demonstrate a strong ability to ensure that the financial aspects of the Forum (strategic budgets, financial systems) are appropriately managed, and, to implement and supervise control systems and ensure transparency and accountability;
Must be able to manage a heavy workload, frequent travel, and irregular work hours; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
Openness and flexibility, capacity to adapt to changing priorities and needs;
Should not be affiliated with any political party, nor holding any government position.
