Position Overview
CURE has an exceptional opportunity for a Nurse Manager at its hospital in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The Nurse Manager (NM) is in a key position in the hospital’s leadership, overseeing all nursing care and integral quality improvement initiatives. The Nurse Manager supports and mentors the nursing staff, performing periodic individual assessments and guiding professional development. The NM interfaces with the nursing leadership from elsewhere on the CURE Network, developing policies and reporting adverse events. In addition, the NM works closely with the Doctor-in-Charge and surgical team on infection control protocols and the hospital’s Covid-19 response
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Overall administration of the department of Nursing (wards/ICU/Quality/infection control) to include planning, organizing, staffing, coordinating, controlling, reporting, and budgeting.
- Develops, maintains, and implements nursing policies that conform to the updated standards of nursing practice.
- Manage, supervise and coordinate the development and implementation of the goals, objectives, and priorities for the nursing area(s).
- Implement management strategies that promote efficient and effective health care delivery.
- Oversee implementation and adherence to CURE nursing policies, procedures, and standards.
- Ensure and lead continuous quality service improvement and accreditation initiatives, in-service education programs, unit meetings, and committee functions as assigned.
- Collaborate with the Medical Director, HODs, and other external institutions for the improvement of health care services.
- Develop and implement an annual health plan for nursing services to include Strategic goals and objectives in liaison with the department supervisors.
- Develop and coordinate quality assurance programs for nursing services and monitor compliance with the standards and ensure that the quality of nursing meets patient needs.
- Maintain records, prepare reports, and compose correspondence on nursing-related issues.
- Liaise with the Ministry of Health, Nursing Council of Zimbabwe, and other related bodies in matters affecting nursing services
Core Competencies/Skills/Education Needed
- Minimum Bachelors’ of Science in Nursing, with a current license to practice with no restrictions (Masters in any field will be an added advantage)
- Minimum of 3 years clinical nursing practice, with some experience on a pediatric surgical unit, highly preferred.
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience in a management position.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Computer proficiency in the applications/software used by the organization.
- Excellent knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of nursing.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment.
- Strong supervisory, education, and performance evaluation skills.
- Decision Making & Problem-Solving - Able to take action in solving problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues; able to use reason, even when dealing with emotional topics; review facts and weigh options
This is a full-time, paid position that offers a competitive salary with a comprehensive benefits package through the local hospital. This position does not offer an expatriate benefits package.
