Chemonics seeks multiple positions to support the DFID Teacher Effectiveness and Equitable Access for All Children Programme (TEACH). The programme aims to contribute in improving teaching and learning outcomes in Zimbabwe, adhering to leave-no-child-behind principles. TEACH includes a four year, £12 million Teacher Professional Development initiative and a five year, £4.5 million Education Innovation activity. The Teacher Professional Development and Education Innovation components are scheduled to launch in 2020, with a six month inception phase followed by a multiyear implementation phase. Both components will focus on strengthening the national education system in Zimbabwe by improving the quality of teaching and piloting innovative solutions. Chemonics and our partners are seeking full- and part-time professionals with experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Pre-service and in-service teacher training
  • Pedagogy and delivery of national curriculum
  • Teacher assessment and inspection
  • Teacher motivation
  • Literacy and numeracy methodologies, teaching at the right level, and school safety and positive discipline
  • School leadership and management
  • Monitoring, evaluation, and learning in education sector reform programmes
  • Project finance and administration
  • Education technology, including learning management systems
Available positions: Team leaders
  • Provide leadership and technical oversight to respective component of TEACH
  • Work closely with DFID in Zimbabwe, the government of Zimbabwe, Ministry of Education, state and local government area representatives, UNICEF, and other key stakeholders
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, including in one of more of the areas highlighted above, a master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in a relevant field; fluency in writing and speaking English; and strong leadership, team management, and communication skills
  • Experience leading donor-funded education development projects in Zimbabwe or elsewhere in sub-Saharan Africa preferred
Deputy team leaders
  • Reporting to the team leader, provide technical leadership on several sub-components of Teacher Professional Development
  • Minimum 10 years of experience, including in one of more of the areas highlighted above, a master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in a relevant field; fluency in writing and speaking English; and strong leadership, team management, and communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of the education sector reforms and priorities in Zimbabwe and leadership experience on education development and reform programmes required
Monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL) specialists
  • Oversee and conduct all MERL activities to ensure quality, timeliness, and efficiency of tool development, data collection, data analysis, and reporting
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research and implement randomized controlled trials
  • Minimum five years of experience for monitoring and evaluation candidates and minimum eight years of experience for research and learning candidates in programme design, delivery, research and randomized controlled trials, and/or monitoring and evaluation
  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent (master’s degree preferred) in education, research methods, statistics, or other relevant field; fluency in writing and speaking English; and strong management and communication skills
  • Experience leading or supporting monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning on donor-funded education or other social development projects in Zimbabwe preferred
Education technology specialist
  • Design and deploy education technology innovations
  • Minimum five years of experience that demonstrate improvements in teachers’ competencies and in education management at school/province/national levels
  • Strong understanding of effective elearning methodologies and learning management systems
  • Familiarity with secondary-level literacy, numeracy, and science curricula an advantage
Finance and administration director
  • Oversee all financial, contractual, human resource, logistical, and office management activities to ensure a well-functioning, cost-effective, and productive work environment for the programme team
  • Minimum five years of experience in donor-funded project finance and administration, preferably for DFID programmes; bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent (master’s degree preferred) in business, finance, accounting, human resource management, or other relevant field; and high proficiency in writing and speaking English
  • Strong financial management, human resource management, and communication skills
Education innovation programme manager
  • Oversee the operational management of the administrative staff, MERL specialists, and technical advisors
  • Support technical leadership and provide input to the team leader
  • Minimum six years of experience in donor-funded programme management; bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred, or foreign equivalent) in a relevant field; and fluency in writing and speaking English
  • Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills
Technical specialists (long-term positions will be based primarily in Harare and will report to the programme team leader or deputy team leader)
  • Expertise in the areas highlighted below are required for long- and short-term positions
  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent (master’s degree preferred) and minimum six years of relevant experience in one or more of the technical areas noted below
  • Pre-service and in-service teacher training (a both primary and secondary levels)
  • Pedagogy and delivery of national curriculum
  • Teacher assessment and inspection
  • Teacher wellbeing and motivation
  • Literacy and numeracy methodologies, teaching at the right level
  • School leadership and management
  • Master trainers (based in Harare or provincially)
