Job Purpose | Mechanic: The mechanic will be responsible for servicing, do basic care and maintenance of the business fleet. The Mechanic will be responsible also for ensuring proper performance of the company vehicles through routine maintenance checks. |
Qualifications and Experience | • 6 O Levels including English • Journeyman Class 1 Motor Mechanics or equivalent, Clean Class 1- 4 Drivers Licence and valid Defensive Driving Certificate. • 3 to 5 years’ experience in a similar or related environment. |
Key Result Areas | • Perform service, basic care and maintenance on vehicles in the business fleet. • Repair or replace worn parts, such as brake pads and wheel bearings, including disassembling and assembling parts. • Identify vehicle mechanical problems and also test parts and systems to ensure that they are working properly before and after repairs and maintenance. • Conducts vehicle inspections on a monthly and adhoc basis • Where necessary seeks vehicle repair quotations from suppliers and raise orders for same. • Maintains accurate, updated records of vehicle service, repairs and maintenance. • Advises on the type of vehicles to purchase • Ensures all vehicles have valid certificate of fitness and permits through inspections. • Ensures that all vehicles conform with all Traffic and EMA Regulations (fire extinguishers, break down triangles, reflectors) • Attends to breakdowns and accidents within set time limits and takes corrective measures to defects noted during an accident or breakdown and VID/police reports • Negotiates for competitive supplier terms, quality and service • Carries out periodic visits to suppliers to maintain cordial working relationships and ensure service delivery. • Tests serviced vehicles to ensure quality and communicates with vehicle users on vehicle performance after service. Explains to vehicle users their automotive problems and the repairs done on their vehicles. |
