Program Overview


CHAI’s global malaria program provides direct technical and operational support to countries around the globe to strengthen their malaria programs and reduce the burden of this preventable and treatable disease. CHAI supports governments to scale up effective interventions for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance, with the goals of sustainably reducing the number of malaria-related illnesses and deaths worldwide in the short term and accelerating progress towards malaria elimination in the long term.


In Zimbabwe, CHAI provides direct technical and operational support to the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) to reduce the burden of malaria in high-burden districts while implementing a progressive sub-national malaria elimination program in 28 low-burden districts in the southern and central regions of the country. CHAI supports the NMCP on the scale-up of effective interventions for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance, in line with the National Malaria Control and Elimination Strategic Plan (2021-2025).


Position Overview


The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) Zimbabwe seeks a highly motivated individual to work as a Malaria Associate reporting to the Malaria Program Manager. The Associate will support the Program Manager in shaping CHAI’s overall malaria strategy for the country, participate in the development of clear operational plans for execution, and continuously identify opportunities for CHAI to add value and maximize the impact of the Ministry of Health’s malaria program. The Associate will work alongside the CHAI malaria team members on CHAI's national-level engagements and provide tiered technical support to all provinces where CHAI will be operating in.


CHAI places great value on relevant personal qualities, including resourcefulness, tenacity, independence, patience, humility, and a strong work ethic. Therefore, the Associate should be an individual with good problem-solving skills to sustainably address complex challenges. They must have excellent relationship-building and communication skills and the ability to function independently with minimal oversight.

Work with the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP)and other partners to optimize malaria testing and treatment coverage in priority areas, including enhancing the quality of the existing community case management program.

Provide robust analytical and data management support to the NMCP in the roll-out and sustenance of the DHIS2 reporting system and dashboards for malaria elimination, vector control, and entomology.

Work with NMCP to create reporting and M&E protocols for DHIS2 modules on malaria elimination case-based surveillance system, vector control, and entomology to ensure the system updates align with routine workflow and operations.

Build the capacity of subnational level staff to collect, analyze and use epidemiological and vector control data for informed decision-making.

Support the CHAI program coordinators to identify and resolve surveillance-related bottlenecks at district and provincial levels in both high burdened and malaria elimination provinces.

Create sustainable linkages with the private sector to ensure malaria testing, treatment, and reporting protocols are widely disseminated and utilized at all points of care.

Support presentation and discussion of new evidence, policies, and strategies on malaria.

Any other duties assigned by the manager.

Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, GIS, Economics, Statistics, or related analytical fields.

At least three years of working experience with increasing levels of responsibility.

Understanding of disease surveillance with knowledge of common health information management systems such as DHIS2 strongly preferred

Proficiency in data analysis and presentation using statistical, geospatial analysis, and data presentation software such as MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, STATA, SPSS, ArcGIS, QGIS, PowerBI, and Tableau.

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and work independently

Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships in a multicultural environment

Patience and thoughtfulness even in high-pressure, stressful situations

Willingness to travel (up to 30-50% of the time)

CHAI in partnership with its India affiliate, William J. Clinton Foundation's (WJCF) has been working in India since 2004 in close partnership with and under the guidance of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) at the central and state levels on an array of high priority initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes. Currently, CHAI/WJCF programs, supports government initiatives on HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis-C, tuberculosis, cancer, immunisation, and health financing. Additionally, CHAI/WJCF supports many state governments on large-scale programs to arrest childhood and maternal mortality due to malnutrition, anaemia, diarrhoea and pneumonia, and helping increase access to quality family planning services.


Hepatitis-C (HCV) Program Overview


The HCV program works on addressing barriers to access for essential diagnostic testing and treatment for HCV. The team works closely with various departments/divisions of Ministry of Health and other organizations to increase access to and accelerate uptake of new innovative drugs as well as diagnostics. Over the past few years, the program has been providing strategic and operational support both at the national level and at the state level in Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. This support has spanned developing strategic and operational plans, designing monitoring and evaluation tools to monitor and measure program performance, and formulating screening strategies through identification of high-risk geographies and populations.


Role Overview


CHAI seeks a highly motivated and entrepreneurial individual with outstanding credentials for the role of Manager, Hepatitis-C (HCV). The Manager will focus on developing the HCV program strategy, achieving operational excellence, expanding scope of engagement and involvement with HCV programs at the state and national levels. The Manager will report to the Deputy Director, Communicable diseases and will work with senior stakeholders across the HCV ecosystem to drive program outcomes. The Manager will lead teams at Delhi and in the states of Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. The ideal candidate would have strong strategic management and planning skills, rich experience of delivering evidence-based insights, impeccable writing and verbal communication competencies, and have demonstrated excellence in leading high calibre teams for impact. Lead, under the guidance of the senior leadership, the process of strategy formulation and executing program deliverables timely and effectively.

Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with the state and national level HCV stakeholders.

Establish evidence-based strategies and analytical approaches for supporting national and state level HCV programs in improving access and program performance.

Work closely with the existing and upcoming public HCV programs to identify and bridge gaps pertaining to supply chain, active case finding, capacity building and monitoring and evaluation.

Engage with local and international development partners to leverage complimentary expertise, funding and/or technical collaborations.

Work with global and in-country leadership to identify and pursue fund-raising opportunities.

Responsible for determining annual budget and allocation for programmatic activities, and monitoring budget utilization.

Support CHAI leadership in managing donor & grant, operations, and finances of the program to meet deliverables within the appropriate time frames.

Draw on CHAI’s global and local expertise in demand generation and supply-side engagements proactively by working with cross-cultural teams.

Recruit, lead, and mentor a high calibre cross-functional team by establishing program/individual goals and creating professional growth opportunities for team members.

Travel on short notice to focus states.

8-10 years of relevant work experience in a public or private sector enterprise.

Master’s degree in management, economics, public administration, public health, or allied areas.
