Legal Research Officer: Centre for Applied Legal Research (CALR) Deadline: 10 December 2019 (5pm) Grade: C3 – C5 Supervisor: Projects Coordinator Job Advert (Number 2/2019) Background The Centre for Applied Legal Research (CALR) is an independent research institute that seeks to empower people, organizations and governments with sound and evidence-based legal and policy solutions and services that enhance development. In furthering its mandate, CALR with the support from The European Union is implementing a project titled: Supporting the completion of the Constitutional Legislative Alignment Process: Phase 2. Main Duties and Responsibilities Conducting timely and accurate research and analysis on various areas of the law; Determining and designing research methodologies for research assignments; Investigating and evaluating sources of data for empirical research; Ensuring accuracy, quality and relevance of research outputs; Professional review and editing of CALR research outputs and legal publications; Assisting in the preparation of draft legislative texts; Specialised legal training and capacity development; Contributing to legal knowledge generation; Legal analysis, legal advice and legal writing; Project management. Qualifications and Work Experience Required The ideal candidate should have: a Master’s Degree in Law; At least 3 years’ experience in conducting legal research; at least 2 years’ experience in project management; outstanding English writing and editing skills; and a demonstrable commitment to the promotion of applied legal research.
