2 (Two) x Food Security Officers - Humanitarian Appeal: SOS Children's Villages International (CVI) Deadline: 20 April 2020 (COB) Location: Shamva About Established in 1949, SOS Children's Villages International (CVI) is a dynamic, international social development organization working globally to meet the needs and protect the interests and rights of children without parental care and those who are at the risk of losing it. SOS Children's Villages Association of Zimbabwe is a member of SOS International - a worldwide children's social welfare organisation, providing vulnerable children without homes with a family home and educational opportunities as well as strengthening families to reduce poverty. Purpose of the position The candidate will be responsible for the implementation, monitoring, reporting, communication and coordination of the emergency response project in Shamva District. The successful person will develop relationships with relevant stakeholders at district level and work smoothly with communities and all stakeholders. He/she will represent SOS Children’s Village Humanitarian Appeal program work in the food security related coordination forums at district level. Duties And Responsibilities Priority tasks & responsibilities Represent the organization’s food security related emergency response program in Shamva rural and ensure a positive collaboration and working relationship with pertinent government offices, community leaders, community structures and program participants; Coordinate meeting with NGOs, and government offices in food security related areas and update the Humanitarian Appeal program coordinator on any emerging issues with regard to the Humanitarian Appeal program; Implement emergency response activities related to food security and closely monitor, evaluate, and produce reports accordingly; Improve awareness and participation of targeted beneficiaries on the program activities through community meetings and trainings; Organize and manage regular meetings with different community committees in the programme area to effectively engage targeted groups or beneficiaries on the planned activities; Identify beneficiaries through participatory selection of the most vulnerable households and record or document each beneficiary data to be able to trace the change before and after the project implementation; Ensure vulnerable children and women inclusion in all aspects of program activities; Create strong linkages with pertinent government line departments and update them regularly on the program progress; Help in translation of information and reports from local to English or from English to local language in an understandable process; Maintain all documents related to the project areas in standard filing system and develop case stories; Prepare and use weekly and monthly plans and submit progress reports accordingly to the Humanitarian Appeal program coordinator for validation; Prepare monthly and quarterly reports and submit to the coordinator; Support the Humanitarian Appeal program coordinator in conducting situation assessment and concept note development; Ensure adherence to SOS CV policies such as the Code of Conduct, Child Safeguarding Standards and others as well as the minimum standards of humanitarian relief (Code of Conduct, Sphere, HAP); Perform other similar activities as assigned by the immediate supervisor. Qualifications The Food Security Officer – must have: Degree in Agriculture, Rural Development, Disaster management, or Development studies; A diploma with substantive continuous hands-on experience in food security and livelihoods program would be accepted in lieu Key skills and experiences The Food Security Officer must have: been involved in the implementation of disaster emergency response and recovery, preferably in the area of food security and livelihoods; At least 3 years of experience in community mobilisation, food relief items distributions, beneficiaries targeting; Good knowledge of key issues relating to food security and agriculture in Zimbabwe in general, and in Shamva District in particular; Good ICT skills, especially the use of Microsoft Office tools, computers and email communications; Basic computer training; Good understanding of humanitarian issues and a deep understanding of the aims and objectives of the organization; Good understanding of accountability and code of conduct issues relating to interactions and management of persons affected by disasters; Sound judgement with good people skills; Ability to write clear and detailed reports in English; ability to use participatory skills and techniques
