Background of the organisation
Environment Africa is a leading environmental organisation in Southern Africa. It was established in 1990 as a private voluntary organisation and is registered and implementing projects in Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. With over 20 years of environmental and agro-ecological programming, Environment Africa believes in the use of local solutions for the most pressing environmental and developmental challenges and works in collaboration with like-minded partners in government and private sector. Through experiential knowledge gained over the years, the organisation places high recognition on improved livelihoods, sustainable development, environmental governance and biodiversity that safeguards current and future generations.
In order to adequately support its various programmes, the organisation is looking for a Finance Intern Officer.
Job Specifications
- The incumbent will be based at our Harare headquarters in Greendale and will report to the Accounting Officer.
- He/she will be expected to start immediately.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Some of the expected duties are as follows: Originating organisational payment requests in accordance with organisational procedures and donor requirements;
- Preparing appropriate documents for payments and writing of transfer instructions, and having them approved by relevant Heads of Departments/budget holders and the Director;
- Communicating with bank signatories, taking payment instructions for signing and delivery to the bank; Maintaining petty cash/cash float, disbursing to staff, following up receipts and reimbursing float when necessary;
- Reviewing Travel & Subsistence Allowances acquittals, preparing journals for expense allocation and carrying out staff accounts reconciliations regularly;
- Data capture from source documents into the Pastel;
- Any other duties that may be assigned.
Qualifications and attributes
- Studying towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; A team player and a good communicator; A flexible and hardworking person.
