Mission of the position


The Field Officer WASH (Environmental and Plastics Pollution Management, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) role will support and advise the program management in the development and implementation of SOS CV Zimbabwe Environmental and Plastics Pollution Management through development activities.


Key performance areas and main responsibilities


The field officer will work under the guidance and supervision of the respective Family Strengthening Coordinator in the assigned geographical areas by performing following tasks: Conduct initial situational and technical assessments of WASH situations and infrastructure in the designated points; Overly project management and budget monitoring and controlling; Facilitate sourcing WASH related materials and identifying workshops / contracts for manufacturing the technology; Setting up the sorting facility; Overseeing manufacturing deployment and maintenance of technology; Supervision of subcontractors and vendors / quality control; Documenting and reporting of progress to Plastic Fischer and SOS Children’s Villages Zimbabwe; Conduct physical verification of progress / completion of implementation of project / programme activities; Inspect warehouses of partners to verify quantities of plastic collected in the rivers and surrounding communities; Participate in WASH coordination meetings at local and district level and other WASH functions as may be delegated by FSP Coordinator; Coordinate with the government counterparts / NGOs / CBOs for documentations that are necessary for project / programme identification and selection, implementation; processing confirmation / verification of completion of project/programme activity; Promote safe WASH practices, in the designated areas assigned; Facilitates and compiles training and orientation materials for those involved in programme implementation, including partners; Reports on the assigned tasks regularly / weekly and monthly basis and / as requested; Hiring and managing collection and sorting staff; Surveying sites and carrying out site measurements; Organizing, improving, and ensuring all necessary logistics.

Competencies


Team Player; Ability to work with minimum supervision; Has experience in managing field operations; Ideally has a degree in Civil / Mechanical / Environmental Engineering; Has experience in manufacturing/construction projects or waste management; Is used to make independent decisions, can take up operational responsibilities, and come up with creative solutions to solve technical challenges; Has team-leading and communication skills; Is able to communicate fluently in English (in addition to the local language); Is interested in developing new skills; Is eager to work in the environmental sector and improve the livelihood of the people of Harare; Effective communication skills in various contexts: project planning, mentoring, training and making presentations; Ability to build strong relationships with youth and external actors.


Qualifications


University degree in Water / Civil / Environmental / Management; Has minimum 4 years working experience in manufacturing / construction projects or waste management; Ability to make informed decisions in a complex environment; Has strong interest to work in the environmental sector and improve the livelihood of the local people.
