Background

Created in 1979, Action contre la Faim is a non-governmental organization that fights against hunger. Its charter of humanitarian principals- independence, neutrality, non-discrimination, free and direct access to victims, professionalism, and transparency - has been part of its identity for more than 40 years. Its mission is to save lives by eliminating hunger through the prevention, detection and treatment of under-nutrition, particularly during and after emergency situations linked to conflicts or natural disasters. Action contre la Faim focuses its actions on 5 main areas of expertise: Nutrition and Health – Mental Health and Care Practices, Gender and Protection - Food Security and Livelihoods – Water, Sanitation and Hygiene – Advocacy. ACF has been working in Zimbabwe since 2002 and over the years, has been a key humanitarian actor in the country. Since 2015, ACF has adopted an intervention strategy focused on localization and capacity development through partnerships, in particular with two national organizations, NAZ (Nutrition Action Zimbabwe) and AA (Africa AHEAD). ACF has increased the size of its mission in the course of last year to adequately respond to the rising humanitarian needs.

ACF, in collaboration with NAZ and AA is pursuing its action primarily through the strengthening of urban and rural households’ cash reserves, with the goal of increasing resilience and reducing negative coping strategies for vulnerable households. ACF is also strengthening and supporting Infection Prevention and Control in health centers in response to the Covid-19 crisis.

Responsibilities

• Ensure quality control and supervision of all the solarisation project work from procurement of material to commissioning of the work

Main Duties

Review overall sketches and drawing, and create own design to form the Bid offer; Act as focal point for communication between the mission and subcontractor(s); Organize and Drive works (procurement/delivery, planning, budget follow up) concerning the solar installations; Control of the work and equipment quality (solar PV, inverter, batteries, freestanding structure construction…); Ensure that suppliers adhere to PV system design criteria including structural, electrical, equipment, and installation parameters; Comply with local and national code requirements in project jurisdictions; Control, Test & Commissioning of the work subcontracted; Ascertain for each Health facilities how much the existing wiring of the Health facilities is to be retained; Control of the protective equipment quality (Distribution boards, MCBs, RCCB, size of cables and accessories); Control, Tests & Commissioning of the work subcontracted; Provide a guide for basic and maintenance operation of solar installation for each Health facilities; Organize trainings on basic operations and maintenance of solar installations; Implement all work related activities with a gender, disability and child protection lens, taking into account the different needs, concerns and ideas of our staff and beneficiaries.

Requested profile

• BSc Degree /HND/Apprentice/ND in Electrical Engineering/Relevant field; Over five (5) years experience in Solar PV Systems and Electrical Installations; Solar system, electrical installation, Planning, organizational and reporting skills.
