iharare jobs Africa AHEAD (AA) is a national NGO which was founded in 1995 in order to address the needs of urban and rural communities through the Community Health Club (CHC) methodology. The objective of AA is to relieve sickness and poverty and promote good health by empowering communities in Zimbabwe. The organization implements a range of Community Health Club and Emergency programmes directly in-country, as well as providing a learning base for other countries wishing to start Community Health Club Program in the region. AA’s vision is to empower women in particular so that, as leaders in a fully functional Community,  they are able to effectively control all preventable diseases and substantially alleviate poverty in their areas and raise living standards for their family. Project background In order to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic AA, in partnership with Action Against Hunger (AAH) is implementing a five  months UNICEF  funded emergency  targeting rehabilitation of Health Facilities and health promotion in Manicaland , Midlands, and Masvingo Provinces AA, therefore, seeks the services of a qualified candidate for qualified Driver. The incumbents will be based in any of the targeted areas of operation and will be working closely with relevant ministries in the three provinces. Job Description The Driver is responsible for transporting people and equipment, and ensure the maintenance of the vehicle under his responsibility He/she is expected to perform their duties according to standards of operation expected by AA, according to AA’s philosophy, principles and policies.  In particular, the incumbent will maintain the highest level of procedural transparency for the organization and its donors. The incumbent is expected to sign the Code of Conduct which describes the manner in which they should represent AA and behave in relation to other members of staff, project stakeholders and participants.  The officer should also be familiar with AA policies that relate to their work (ignorance of AA’s policies and procedures will not be considered an excuse in incidences of malpractice). The incumbent will work to a defined work plan with timelines.  A description of duties is set out below.  However, other duties may be assigned, as appropriate, by the line-manager to enhance the smooth running of the project in line with project and organizational goals. Objective 1: Transport people and equipment under good security conditions: Activities:
  • When transporting AA personnel, respect the country’s circulation rules and follow the logistician’s planning and instructions;
  • In case of an accident, immediately get in touch with the closest police station and duly inform the logistics department;
  • Follow the instructions of the manufacturer and the Organization rules when using the vehicle;
  • Keep all personal documents as well as those of the vehicle with you and check that they are valid.
  Objective 2: Ensure the maintenance of the vehicle: Activities:
  • Solve minor technical problems;
  • Inform the logistics department of any major repairs to be carried out;
  • Carry out daily checks before starting up the motor;
  • Keep the vehicle clean;
  • Note down fuel consumption in the record book in the morning and at the end of the day as well as any information concerning the maintenance of the vehicle;
  • Check the security boots.
  • Note down all required information in the logbook
  Objective 3: Prepare departures to the field: Activities:
  • Inspect and prepare the vehicle the day before departure so as to be on time;
  • Prepare additional equipment to be brought along according to needs (fuel, stickers, flags, tools, etc).
Qualification and Experience Diploma /O- Level of studies: School leaving certificate or equivalent –Clean Class 4 or 2 Driver’s licence. Defence Driving Certificate will be an added advantage -At least 3 years’ experience driving -Experience working with Local or International NGO is an added advantage Required skills: Mechanical skills – Negotiating ability – Rigour – Punctuality
