SIMON MUZENDA SCHOOL OF ARTS, CULTURE AND HERITAGE STUDIES
DIRECTOR, CAMPUS RADIO ( 1 POST)
This is a senior management position, requiring the incumbent to be knowledgeable about current broadcasting trends in Zimbabwe. The incumbent must be able to develop and implement the Campus Radio’s vision, demonstrate managerial competence, raise funds and represent GZU Campus Radio in multiple fora. The position is a full time contract appointment, for a period of up to four years, subject to renewal on satisfactory performance.
Desired Attributes
The successful candidate must:
- have at least 5 years’ experience in teaching Media or Journalism at tertiary level;
- have a strong professional profile and significant experience, including a minimum of at least 3 years in practical journalism and experience at senior newsroom levels;
- have at least one year’s experience running a Campus radio station;
- show a track record of leadership and innovation in the media industry in Zimbabwe;
- demonstrate knowledge of current broadcasting trends in Zimbabwe and the ability to develop and implement the Campus Radio’s vision;
- demonstrate managerial competence, experience in raising funds and the ability to represent the GZU Campus Radio in multiple forums; and be able to teach at least one of the following modules:
- News Writing and Reporting
- Investigative Journalism
- Online Journalism
- Documentary Production
The Duties and Responsibilities
- The incumbent will be responsible for;
- Facilitating the development of Campus Radio policy frameworks, for successful implementation of Education 5.0 through the Radio Station;
- Coordinating Campus Radio programs or activities;
- Overseeing the overall running of the Campus Radio Station in conjunction with the Department of English and Media Studies;
- Providing effective solutions to problems faced by the Campus Radio Station;
- Ensuring that the Campus Radio serves the University and the wider community through programming and awareness campaigns;
- Developing and implementing strategies for making the Campus Radio Station productive.
- Providing leadership in fundraising for the Radio Station;
- Developing regulations for short courses for radio and TV in conjunction with the Media and Cultural Studies section of the Department of English and Media Studies;
- Ensuring that content producers and technical employees comply with broadcasting regulations and other related laws; and
- Carrying out any other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor through the relevant departments.
