Description :
Baseline Study - Stepping-up Post-Emergency Recovery and Resilience to Empower Vulnerable Communities in Zimbabwe (SUPER-EVC) Programme: Save the Children
Deadline: 26 February 2021
Background
Save the Children believes every child deserves a future. In Zimbabwe and around the world, we give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. We do whatever it takes for children – every day and in times of crisis – transforming their lives and the future we share. Save the Children an ICRISAT are implementing Stepping-up Post-Emergency Recovery and Resilience to Empower Vulnerable Communities in Zimbabwe (SUPER-EVC) funded by EU/DEVCO in Beitbridge and Matobo districts in Matebeleland South Province. The overall objective of the intervention is to improve the resilience of vulnerable households to cope with and recover from recurrent livelihoods shocks and stresses.
The consortium seeks to:
Identify opportunities by which the project can be delivered within a nexus framework (linkages, synergies among humanitarian and development actions being delivered in the target districts, including building onto the humanitarian SMACC project currently underway). Identify opportunities for layering, sequencing and integration of project activities; Establish the baseline of the livelihoods of the target beneficiaries in Beitbridge and Matobo districts, with a focus on crops and small livestock value chains (status on production and productivity, potential for crowding in of farmers, marketing arrangements); Establish the major hazards and shocks affecting the target community, how they may potentially impact the project and identify the major coping strategies adopted by households to mitigate the impacts (climate change/natural, economic, social etc). Document any success stories picked up and their potential for replication; Assess the status of the vulnerable groups (women, children, people with disability, the elderly, people with chronic conditions etc) who may be negatively impacted by the project. Identify their potential vulnerabilities and available community arrangements to protect and safeguard them (gender and intersectionality would be key in the analyses); Proffer recommendations to 1. strengthen the nexus approach, 2. enhance sustainability of the agronomic and livestock interventions in the context of recurrent shocks (natural and socio-economic), 3. identify potential pathways and innovations to strengthen the resilience of target beneficiaries (with focus on Tiers 3 & 2, while strengthening inter-dependencies among the 3 categories) and 4. Promote social inclusion while eliminating unintended consequences that might harm the vulnerable individuals, e.g. from a Do No Harm perspective.
Save the Children in partnership with ICRISAT are inviting bidders to undertake baseline study in Beitbridge District (5 Wards) and Matobo District (6 Wards) in which the SUPER-EVC is being implemented.
