Background
A Local NGO whose work is centred on a core group of rights which are reflective of natural resources governance namely, environmental, economic, social, and cultural (EESC) rights, seeks the services of a consultant to produce a report on the state of business and human rights in 2020. The report will aid in influencing reforms within legal and institutional frameworks governing the environment and natural resources sector and guide implementation of future projects.
Main objective
To produce a 2020 State of Business and Human Rights in Zimbabwe Report
Specific terms of reference
To develop an information base on business and human rights issues in 2020; To identify gaps in the legal and policy framework governing business and human rights operations in Zimbabwe; To propose recommendations to promote mineral resource equity in Zimbabwe.
Key deliverables and timelines
Identify, assess, and document cases of business and human rights issues in the mineral host communities in Zimbabwe (Mutoko, Zvishavane, Manicaland, Gwanda and Chivi); Carry out key informant interviews in the selected areas; Conduct a comparative analysis of the local laws with international and regional best practices and identify gaps in the current legal framework; Add examples from international standards and cases; Assess the mineral revenue transparency and accountability trends of mining companies and Government in the selected areas; Assess the participation of women, youth and children living with disabilities in the areas selected; Guard against plagiarism and reference sources; Highlight key recommendations.
Time frame
The consultant is required to complete the work within 1 month of signing the contract.
Applicant requirements / Relevant qualifications
At least five years’ experience in human rights work; A degree in law; The ability to research, write, review, and produce high quality work; competency in clear, concise documenting in plain English.
