Background
Welthungerhilfe is one of the largest German non-governmental organisations in the area of development co-operation and emergency relief. Primarily in co-operation with local partner organisations, its task to contribute to improvement in the nutritional and income basis for the low-income populations in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Welthungerhilfe has been implementing projects in Zimbabwe almost continuously since 1980. Sector focus is on, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Food and Nutrition security, Livelihoods and when necessary Emergency response.
Welthungerhilfe Zimbabwe is leading a consortium with Empretec and Bio Innovation Zimbabwe (BIZ) as implementing partners in the implementation of a European Union funded project. The project titled Strengthening Competiveness and Potential for Export for Inclusive Value Chains (SCOPE4IVC) will be implemented in Gokwe, Umzingwane, Bubi and Chivi districts. SCOPE4IVC seeks to improve productivity and export competitiveness of Medium and small enterprises (MSMEs) in chili, nyimo and marula VCs and to enable Business Support Organisations (BSOs) to deliver high-value services at all levels of the Value Chain. Welthungerhilfe seeks to recruit and qualified candidates are invited to apply for the following vacancies.
Responsibilities
Set up (where relevant) and manage the project office at field level in accordance with the project work plan; Mobilise, coordinate, implement and follow up on the project activities within his/her respective area of responsibility as per the annual work plan and budget; Ensure that the implementation of the work plan is consistent with the envisaged outputs and objectives of the project document; Work closely with farmer/collector groups and local business support to improve the production and processing of products in the chili, marula and nyimo value chain; Assist Regional Coordinator in organizing various workshops, assessments (value chain) trainings and planning; Update and report to the Regional Coordinator on a regular basis about the progress and constraints and try to resolve implementation problems, if any, in consultation with the implementing partners with advice/guidance of the Regional Coordinator; Ensure a coordinated and collaborative approach is undertaken among project partners at field-level /implementing project interventions and achieving desired outcomes; Develop and maintain contacts with all relevant stakeholders; Act as liaison to and cooperate with other projects/programs in the region; Collect and circulate relevant information, disseminate project experiences; Maintain close coordination/linkages with targeted district line agencies, local bodies, I/NGOs and projects within the project area and keep them fully informed of the project activities; Act as a field level representative for the project in various forums, as assigned by the Regional Coordinator; Prepare annual work plan, quarterly progress report, annual progress report and other plans as required, with assistance/inputs of other project staff and ensure timely submission to the Project Management Unit; Provide additional support to Project Management Unit as required.
Requirements
A University degree in Agriculture/Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Rural Development or related field; Knowledge of crop value chain development, particularly marula, chilli and nyimo; 3 years of working experience in conducting value chain assessments and determining appropriate interventions to enhance agricultural productivity and market access for farmers; Experience in designing and implementing projects aimed at improving agricultural value chains and linkage with markets; Experience in developing and managing capacity building activities for enterprise groups and local institutions; Demonstrated experience in sustainable agriculture; Strong working experience with key value chain stakeholders (producers, traders, enterprise groups, rural financing institutions/banks, and research/policy associations; Familiarity (having worked in the district previously) a plus
