Veterinary Attachee Needed at Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority
The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) is on the lookout for a dynamic and innovative student to join their Veterinary team as an attachee for a year-long program. Responsibilities
1. Animal Care and Surgical Assistance
The chosen candidate will be actively involved in treating and performing surgical procedures on sick or injured wild animals, dogs, and horses. This includes being part of the team addressing health concerns promptly and efficiently.
2. Disease Prevention and Control
Contributing to the prevention of predictable disease outbreaks is a key responsibility. The attachee will utilize the best veterinary methods and available resources to safeguard the health of both wild and domestic animals.
3. Wildlife Capture Exercises
Participating in wild animal capture exercises is an exciting aspect of the role. This involves hands-on experience in safely and ethically capturing wild animals for various purposes.
4. Collaborative Disease Surveillance
Working in collaboration with the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), the attachee will assist in the surveillance of diseases affecting both wild and domestic animals, ensuring a coordinated approach to health monitoring.
5. Research and Development
Engaging in relevant research activities in wildlife health, captive breeding, production, and veterinary issues is another facet of the role. This includes contributing to ongoing projects and staying abreast of the latest advancements in the field.
6. Logistics Support
The attachee will play a vital role in arranging and packing equipment and tools of trade before and after exercises carried out by the unit, showcasing organizational and logistical skills.
7. Miscellaneous Services
Flexibility is key, as the attachee may be assigned various services by the unit staff members as the need arises, contributing to a diverse and enriching experience.
Qualifications & Attributes
Prospective candidates should possess:
- 3 ‘A’ level passes
- Pursuing a degree in Biological Sciences or Wildlife Management with a focus on Chemistry and Biological Forensics
- Demonstrated willingness to learn
- Strong work ethic and honesty
- Exceptional problem-solving skills
