Zimbabwe’s Agricultural Transformation: The Smallholder Irrigation Revitalisation Program (SIRP)

Zimbabwe, in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development (MLAFWRD), is actively driving the Smallholder Irrigation Revitalisation Program (SIRP). Supported by funding from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the SIRP aims to ensure food and nutrition security for rural households amidst climate change uncertainties and economic shocks. The MLAFWRD has sought the expertise of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to accelerate the implementation of SIRP, particularly in 10 irrigation schemes across 3 provinces. UNOPS brings its Back on Track (BOT) methodology to fortify project delivery standards and ensure the positive impact of the SIRP on rural livelihoods, food security, and climate adaptation.
