UNICEF Malawi Country Programme

The UNICEF Malawi Country Programme (2019-2023) aligns with the Government of Malawi’s Implementation Plan (MIP1), Malawi’s Vision 2063, and the United Nations Development Assistance Framework 2019-2023 (UNDAF). This program emphasizes children’s rights, equity, gender equality, inclusion, and resilience. It focuses on early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescence, communities, program effectiveness, and the vision of “leaving no child behind.”

Malawi’s New Nutrition Program

Malawi’s upcoming Nutrition program (2024-2028) will concentrate on strategic partnerships, food systems, education, health, WASH, and social policy to address nutrition challenges. As Chief Nutrition, you will use your management skills, experience, and expertise to work with key stakeholders and address nutrition issues, especially during emergencies caused by various factors.

Key Responsibilities

The role of Chief Nutrition Officer encompasses various responsibilities, including:

  1. Strong Managerial Leadership: Fostering teamwork and nurturing staff morale.
  2. Programme Development and Planning: Critical and strategic thinking to design nutrition programs.
  3. Programme Management: Monitoring and delivering results, especially during emergencies.
  4. Advisory Services: Providing technical support and cross-sectoral collaboration.
  5. Advocacy and Partnership Building: Building relationships with key stakeholders.
  6. Innovation and Capacity Building: Elevating programs and sharing lessons learned.

Qualifications

To qualify for this role, you will need:

Education: An advanced university degree in Public Health, Medicine, Nutrition, Dietetics, Paediatrics, or a related field.

Experience: A minimum of eight years of relevant professional work experience in developing and implementing nutrition programs, particularly in an international context. Experience in emergencies and system strengthening is essential.

Technical Knowledge and Skills: Proficiency in various areas, including nutrition science, public health nutrition, program design and planning, monitoring and evaluation, budgeting, policy advocacy, research, data analysis, emergency response, cross-sectoral collaboration, capacity building, partnership management, communication, leadership, and innovation.

Language: Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of other official UN languages or a local language is an asset.
