About UNDP
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a global development network that helps countries to achieve sustainable development. UNDP works in 170 countries and territories, helping to reduce poverty, build resilient communities, and promote democracy.
UNDP’s work on sustainable development and poverty reduction is focused on three main areas:
- Enabling people to escape poverty. This includes providing access to basic services such as education, healthcare, and clean water; supporting small businesses and farmers; and helping people to develop the skills they need to get good jobs.
- Protecting the environment. This includes promoting sustainable agriculture, reducing deforestation, and investing in renewable energy.
- Building stronger institutions. This includes supporting good governance, fighting corruption, and promoting gender equality.
UNDP’s work in these areas is helping to make a real difference in the lives of people around the world. For example, in Ethiopia, UNDP is helping to improve access to education for girls, which is helping to break the cycle of poverty.
In Colombia, UNDP is working with farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices, which is helping to protect the environment and improve crop yields.
And in Indonesia, UNDP is supporting the government to develop better policies on gender equality, which is helping to empower women and girls.
UNDP’s work on sustainable development and poverty reduction is essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are a set of 17 goals that were adopted by the United Nations in 2015. The goals aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
