The Catholic Relief Services (CRS) International Development Fellows Program is a professional opportunity for individuals committed to a career in international relief and development. This 12-month fellowship equips participants with practical field experience while working on impactful projects that address critical global challenges. Fellows collaborate with experienced CRS staff in various developing countries, gaining hands-on knowledge and contributing to meaningful work. CRS encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds who align with the agency’s mission and values.
The fellowship aims to prepare participants for future leadership roles within CRS and focuses on skill development in the following key areas:
- Project Management
- Project Design
- Systems and Operations
- Partnership Building
Eligibility Requirements:
- A graduate degree in a relevant field
- A minimum of six months of work or volunteer experience in a developing country
- Fluency in English, with strong written and oral communication skills
- Professional proficiency in a second language (preference for French, Arabic, or Portuguese)
- Willingness to work in locations with tropical diseases and limited access to healthcare
Fellowship Benefits:
- Medical/Dental/Vision Coverage: Fellows receive an international medical plan, including vision coverage with no deductible for in-network providers and low out-of-pocket costs.
- Safe Furnished Housing: CRS provides basic furnished housing with essential utilities such as electricity, running water, internet, and security (if required). Housing is typically near the CRS office.
- Paid Time Off: Fellows are entitled to 20 days of paid vacation, 12 sick days, and 4 personal days annually.
- Travel & Medical Evacuation: CRS covers relocation expenses, including transportation, visas, inoculations, and medical evacuation for Fellows and their dependents.
- Retirement Benefits (403B): After six months of service, CRS offers a 50% match on the first 6% of contributions, along with a 7% contribution of salary regardless of personal contributions. For those without a social security number, offshore retirement fund participation is available.
- Continued Education: Fellows gain access to CRS’ online learning platform and may receive up to $5,200 per year for degree programs and professional certifications after one year of employment.
