Soul Jah Love Burial: Mourners Leave A Trail Of Destruction
Zimdancehall musician Soul Jah Love, real name Soul Muzavazi Musaka, was buried at Warren Hills Cemetery in Harare on Saturday.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the burial was attended by thousands of fans, some colleagues in the music industry, members of his family and officers from the Zimbabwe National Army.
It was not easy for the police officers to control the mourners while enforcing the current lockdown regulations.
However, the human traffic left a huge trail of destruction at the cemetery as some youths could be seen standing on top of tombstones belonging to people buried at the site as they tried to catch a glimpse of the proceedings.
Chibaba, as he was also known, died on Tuesday last week at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital in Harare following a long battle with Sugar Diabetes. He was 31.
Chibaba was conferred with liberation hero status by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Officers of the Zimbabwe National Army who attended the burial gave the music icon a gun salute in honour of his hero status. A gun salute is a symbolic gesture of honour, performed by military officers whenever a hero is laid to rest.
The late music icon, Simon ‘Chopper’ Chimbetu is another musician who was also honoured with the liberation hero status. In 2019, the late Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi was honoured with the national hero status.
