Senior Driver Wanted At UNESCO
Under the authority of the Regional Director & UNESCO Representative and the direct supervision of the Administrative Officer (AO)/ Administrative Assistant (AA), as applicable, the Senior Driver provides reliable and safe driving services ensuring high accuracy of work to the Regional Director of Office and high-ranking UN officials and visitors, coordinates routes and schedules work of other drivers.
Main responsibilities include but are not limited to the following functions:
GENERAL
- Ensure provision of reliable and safe driving services for Regional Director/, UNESCO/UN officials and staff, including senior and high-ranking officials and visitors.
- Meet senior staff, officials and visitors at the airport.
- Assist with basic visa and customs formalities and translation of basic information from the local language into the working/local language for Regional Director/and/or official personnel using the vehicle (When required).
- Refer to the AO/AA problems such as abuse/ misuse of equipment and vehicles, as well as the report of accidents.
- Deliver and collects mail and documents and other items as required.
SAFETY
- Assure the care and safety precautions at driving sometimes in dense, difficult and hazard traffic driving conditions.
- Determine the itineraries of the trip and the expected duration of the journey (choices of route, observance of security instructions and procedures)
- Guarantee the respect of local driving rules and regulations
- Secure the availability of required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle; keeps track of insurance and other tax formalities.
MANAGEMENT
- Operate with independence and autonomy from the day-to-day supervision of driving tasks assuring the successful and timely achievement of the assignments.
- Manage the agenda of the Regional Director when on a road trip/mission and coordinates transportation with the secretarial assistant of the Regional Director and the AO/AA.
- Ensure cost-savings through proper upkeep of vehicles and accurate day-to-day maintenance and/or coordination of daily vehicle logs.
- Instruct other drivers in matters pertaining to traffic and safety regulations, office regulations with respect to vehicles and equipment, and safety measures.
- Prepare vehicle maintenance logs and reports. Coordinate routes and schedules drivers and vehicles for use on a daily basis.
Additional activities that may be required when not driving, may perform other duties, such as photocopying, archiving, assisting with filing, paying some office bills etc.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
ACADEMIC
Completed secondary school education.
WORK EXPERIENCE
At least 2 years experience as a driver.
A valid driver’s license
A clean driving record
Minimum visual acuity of 20/50 (or corrected to 20/50)
Familiarity with GPS devices
Knowledge of area roads and neighborhoods
Ability to lift heavy packages and luggage
Availability to occasionally take weekend and night shifts
A polite and professional disposition
Ability to remain calm in stressful driving situations (e.g. at rush hour)
LANGUAGES
Well spoken English including reading and writing.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
ACADEMIC
Defensive driving certificate and/or training
WORK EXPERIENCE
Experience working in the UN System, or at similar international or bilateral organizations is an asset.
LANGUAGES
Knowledge of another official language of UNESCO (Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish)
