Months after her departure from popular eTV soapie, Rhythm City, actress Samkelo Ndlovu, who played Lerato, has now decided to totally set aside her acting and start a music career.

She now goes by the name, Samu, under which we should be expecting her very first single this Christmas day.

Speaking about the bold move she has taken, she says her acting career was long overdue and it took much of her time.

“I learnt in my 13 years of being in the television industry that acting will take all of your time,” she said.

“I found it impossible to split my time, so I felt I needed to make the sacrifice in order to take a real plunge.

I’ve always been a musician. I’ve spent the last 13 years practising my acting and it has been long overdue for me to get into music. So you can say I’m a singing actress,” she added.

Samu recently had a public spat with fellow musician, Nomuzi “Moozlie” Mabena whom she accused of throwing a drink on her and running away ar Altitude Beach Club in Fourways.

But many have felt like this was one PR stush she was trying to pull to make her new single trend.

The Twitter spat quickly put her name and music on the top list of Twitter trends.

But the budding musician made it clear that she was mad over what happened and this was not a PR stunt.

Speaking about her music, Samu says it is an experimental project on women sexuality that will also be followed by an EP.

“It is a celebration of women and their sexuality. It’s an exploration of the liberation of women’s sexual identity and prowess. It is experimental because it has six different genres, namely jazz, R&B, ballads, amapiano, trap soul and gqom.”

Samkelo assured fans that she doesn’t know how long her acting career will be put on hold, but she will definitely resume soon.
