Job Summary
The General Manager at PPC Africa is responsible for achieving the lowest cost product status in cement operations while ensuring safety, sustainability, and consistent product quality. The role plays a critical role in providing reliable products to the customer base and involves the review and authorization of plant and departmental budgets, including OPEX and CAPEX.
Qualifications and Experience
To be eligible for this role, candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent qualification
- A minimum of 5 years of management experience in the cement or related manufacturing industry at a group level
- 5 to 8 years of operational general management experience in the cement or related manufacturing industry
Key Responsibilities
As the general manager, your key responsibilities include:
Micro- and Macro-Economic Awareness:
- Staying informed about macro- and micro-economic conditions, legislation, competition, market sentiment, and industry developments
- Anticipating and planning for factors that may impact the strategic plan’s development.
Strategy Development and Implementation:
- Overseeing the implementation of the strategic framework and objectives for the plant.
- Continuously reviewing plans and systems to achieve operational targets.
- Identifying and applying best practices.
- Managing operational efficiencies across the plant
Operational Business Plans Integration:
- Overseeing the compilation of business plans in all plant departments
- Reviewing and integrating operational business plans to align with strategic intent.
- Guiding operations in reviewing practices, systems, and structures for appropriateness.
Anticipating Change and Forecasting Deviations:
- Anticipating change and aligning reporting and information requirements.
- Forecasting deviations and taking proactive action.
- Initiating external and internal audits.
Compliance Structures and Frameworks:
- Ensuring adherence to established compliance frameworks.
- Incorporating legislative changes into best practices and systems
- Promoting and enforcing a culture of statutory compliance
Continuous Improvement Culture:
- Evaluating deviation trends and overseeing operational effectiveness programs and improvement practices.
- Driving the implementation of strategic programs.
Plant Performance:
- Reviewing Plant performance against agreed standards and targets
- Overseeing the resolution of performance issues.
Shared Services:
- Overseeing the provision of shared services (Admin, Stores, HR, Engineering, Risk, and Projects) to achieve objectives.
