The University seeks to recruit applicants with requisite qualifications, skills and experience for the
following posts in the Physical Planning Works and Estates: –

1. MAINTENANCE OFFICER (1 POST)

Minimum Entry Qualifications

 Bachelor’s degree in civil and structural engineering, civil engineering technology,
mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or equivalent. A qualification in Quantity
Surveying may be considered if there is distinct demonstration of proven experience in the
built environment and engineering fields.
 At least 5 years’ experience in the maintenance field, two of which must be in a senior
position
 Must be a registered member of the ZIE and ECZ or eligible for registration
 Knowledge of Maintenance Systems and Strategies, Asset Management and Inventory
Management
 Advanced proficiency in Management Information Systems (MIS) and Maintenance
Management Systems (MMS)
 Conversant with Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and Requirements
 In-depth knowledge of building maintenance and construction industry regulations.
 Proven experience in the Built Environment is a distinct advantage
 A project management certificate will be an added advantage
 A valid driver’s license.

Duties and Responsibilities

 Planning, implementing and managing all the university’s building, plant & equipment
maintenance
 Responsible for preparation of CapEx and Operational budgets
 Participating in organisational tactical and strategic planning
 Performing cost calculations and preparing financial projections.
 Leading a multidisciplinary technical team and ensuring execution of prepared work
schedules to the required standard and quality.
 Liaising between contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
 Overseeing all maintenance and project work in the department
 Ensuring adherence to maintenance schedules and compliance to statutory requirements
 Ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.
 Documenting processes and keeping detailed maintenance logs

2. BUILDER/BRICKLAYER (1 POST)

Applicants must have 5 ‘O’ Level passes, a Class 1 Journeyman Builder Certificate and a minimum of
3 years post qualification experience. The successful candidate must have his/her own tools.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

 Building/constructing durawalls, broken walls, concrete slabs, concrete columns and any
other super structures.
 Laying pavers, floor/wall tiles.
 Wall plastering and screeds.
 Measuring and preparing Bills of Quantities for materials.
 Understanding and interpreting engineering/architectural drawings.
 Understanding all the building services and their functionality.
 Preparing and planning maintenance schedules.

3. ASSISTANT TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) (1 POST)

Applicants must have the following minimum entry qualifications:

 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English and Mathematics
 National Certificate/ Diploma in Motor Mechanics
 Skilled Worker Class Two Certificate
 Should have at least 3 years post qualification experience
 Be of mature disposition
 Possession of a clean Class Two (2) Driver’s Licence will be an added advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

 Working under the supervision of the Technician.
 Filling of job cards for all tasks undertaken.
 Performing general checks and adjustments on vehicles.
 Adhering to a planned maintenance schedule for vehicles.
 Maintaining a clean working environment.
 Complying with workshop safety regulations.

4. AUTOMOTIVE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN (1 POST)

Applicants must have the following minimum entry qualifications:

 5 ‘O’ Levels including English and Mathematics
 Valid Class Two (2) Driver’s Licence
 National Certificate/ Diploma in Motor Mechanics
 Skilled Worker Class One Certificate
 Should have at least 5 years post apprenticeship experience
 Be of mature disposition

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

 Filling of job cards for all tasks undertaken
 Conducting general checks and adjustments on vehicles
 Preparing vehicles for Certificate of Fitness inspections (C.O.F)
 Adhering to a planned maintenance schedule for vehicles
 Maintaining a clean working environment
 Complying with workshop safety regulations
 Supervising and training apprentices
