Job Requirements

• A relevant Master’s degree on NQF level 9 with a focus on the teaching and/or learning of Languages.
• Candidates should submit an abstract of their thesis or dissertation to indicate relevance to the teaching, learning and/or assessment of Languages.
• A formal teaching qualification (e.g. Diploma in Education or Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent) with IsiZulu as a major. Preference will be given to candidates with a primary school teaching qualification.
• A minimum of five (5) year’s relevant teaching experience in a school context or a minimum of two (2) years of relevant teaching experience in a higher education environment.
• Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at academic conferences or equivalent.
• Provide evidence of manuscript (s) produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication, ideally in an accredited journal.

Eligibility requirements:

• Open to all South African and foreign nationals for full-time research at the UFS.
• Graduated with a PhD degree in a relevant discipline within the last five years.
• Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship
• Successful applicants must be able to relocate to the UFS for the duration of the fellowship. This is a residential fellowship: the successful applicant is required to spend 80% of her/his postdoctoral period at the UFS.

Recommendations: 

• Demonstrated leadership in an indigenous church and/or in an academic biblical colloquium focusing on ethnic groups.
• The home language of Sesotho or another designated group or a non-western language.
• Training, research, and/or publications in Biblical Hebrew linguistics and/or Bible translation.
• Training, research, and/or publications in the languages of the ancient Bible translations (Greek, Aramaic, Syriac, Latin).

• A proven academic and research stature and expertise in an academic environment.
• Registered as a medical specialist with the HPCSA and appropriate postgraduate qualification in any discipline in Medicine.
• Eligibility for appointment as Professor in a department in the Faculty.
• Management experience of at least five (5) years in a senior academic and/or clinical service department in the Faculty and/or academic hospital
• A dynamic status as set out in the UFS Academic Appointment and Promotion Policy, and accountability at the academic status level as required for the post.
