Join the Frontline of Wildlife Healthcare: Nurse Clinic Job at Gonarezhou Conservation Trust
Gonarezhou Conservation Trust (GCT) is seeking experienced and qualified candidates for the position of Nurse. The Nurse will be responsible for providing healthcare services to the GCT staff and their dependents residing within the Gonarezhou National Park.
This role involves managing medical cases, offering advice, and treating staff members while overseeing general health-related matters in the park.
Responsibilities: The Nurse will have various duties and areas of responsibility, including the following:
Comprehensive Nursing Care:
- Ensure the provision of comprehensive nursing care for patients, addressing their medical needs effectively.
Medication Administration:
- Administer medications and other treatments to patients, including ART patients, with utmost care and precision.
Patient Record Management:
- Maintain patient records with strict confidentiality, ensuring proper documentation and organization.
Emotional and Psychological Support:
- Provide educational, emotional, and psychological support to patients, creating a nurturing environment.
Diagnostic Tests and Interpretation:
- Conduct diagnostic tests for Covid-19 and Malaria, interpret the results accurately, and provide appropriate management.
Infection Control Measures:
- Enforce infection control measures according to protocols, prioritizing the health and safety of patients and staff.
Procurement and Inventory Management:
- Procure medications, assets, stationery, and sundries necessary for the smooth functioning of the clinic.
- Manage medical supplies’ stock levels and maintain asset inventories.
Health Awareness Campaigns:
- Conduct continual health awareness campaigns for the GCT community, including staff and their families.
Monitoring Programs:
- Monitor motherhood and immunization programs, ensuring the well-being of individuals under care.
Water Quality Monitoring:
- Send specimens from selected water sources for analysis to laboratories to prevent waterborne infections.
Safety and Cleanliness:
- Maintain good housekeeping and a safe, clean environment in staff villages and pickets, adhering to health profession standards.
Training and Collaboration:
- Train GCT supportive staff on Malaria testing and treatment, first aid, safety, and health programs.
- Collaborate with staff and the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare for implementing an anti-malaria spraying program.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Compile and submit monthly reports to the Ministry of Health and GCT Management, providing valuable insights for decision-making.
- Report work-related injuries to the HR Office, prepare accident reports, and facilitate NSSA WCIF procedures.
Emergency Response:
- Respond to job-related medical emergencies, providing on-site treatment to sick or injured staff members.
- Oversee satellite clinics in the Park, ensuring proper functioning and coordination.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Hold a minimum of a Diploma in General Nursing, with a Degree or Master’s Degree being an added advantage.
- Possess certification in Rapid HIV testing and counseling, as well as forensic nursing.
- Knowledge of Covid testing is mandatory.
- Diploma in Midwifery will be advantageous.
- Be registered with the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe and the Health Professions Association of Zimbabwe.
- Have at least 3 years of experience working in an industrialized clinic set-up.
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of patient management, including resuscitation and treatment.
- Exhibit excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office for report writing and data analysis.
Personal Attributes:
- Display self-starting and problem-solving abilities, along with high levels of confidentiality, organization, and professionalism.
- Possess adaptability and excellent communication skills.
- Preferred age range for candidates is 45 years and above.
