International Undergraduate Merit Scholarship 2025
The University of Sheffield is offering International Undergraduate Merit Scholarships, each valued at £10,000, towards tuition fees for new undergraduate students beginning their studies in autumn 2025. These competitive scholarships are available to new international students who meet the eligibility requirements and hold an offer to study at the University of Sheffield.
Application Timeline:
- Applications are now open.
- The deadline to apply is Tuesday, 22 April 2025, at 1 pm (UK time).
- Scholarship recipients will be announced by Wednesday, 14 May 2025.
- Successful applicants must confirm their scholarship acceptance and finalize their course offer by a set date.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants must have an offer for an undergraduate program scheduled to start in autumn 2025 at the University of Sheffield.
- Eligible programs include all undergraduate courses except Medicine (A100/A101) and Dentistry (A200).
- Applicants must be self-funded international students paying overseas tuition fees and must not be recipients of full sponsorship.*
- Candidates must enter directly into the first or second year of their program.
- MArch programs are considered postgraduate and are not eligible for this scholarship.
The University reserves the right to modify scholarship offerings.

Selection Criteria:
The scholarships are awarded based on merit. A selection panel will evaluate applicants on the following:
- Evidence of excellence and initiative in education, volunteering, or extracurricular activities.
- Relevance of achievements to the chosen course at Sheffield and future career goals.
- Academic standing.
Scholarship Terms:
- Awardees must begin their studies in autumn 2025.
- Only one International Undergraduate Merit Scholarship may be received.
- This scholarship cannot be combined with other specified merit scholarships but may be awarded alongside departmental or faculty-specific scholarships, provided it does not lead to full sponsorship status.
- It cannot be combined with external sponsorships**, except for repayable loans.
- Scholarships cover each academic year as a tuition fee discount, contingent on maintaining a minimum of 60% and 120 credits annually.
- Medicine, Dentistry, and non-USIC Foundation year applicants are not eligible.
- The scholarship does not apply during industry placement or study-abroad years.
- Scholarships are awarded for up to four years (excluding placements and study abroad).
- Part-time students receive a pro-rata scholarship amount equivalent to one full-time academic year.
- If awarded, recipients must confirm acceptance of the scholarship and their course offer by 4 pm (UK time) on Wednesday, 4 June 2025.
Decisions made by the scholarship panel are final, and appeals are not accepted. If a student defers their studies, the scholarship will not carry over to a future year. Changes in program or clearing admissions may also affect scholarship eligibility. The scholarship will be applied as a tuition discount, with no cash alternative.
A sponsored student is defined as receiving funds equal to or exceeding the original tuition fee before scholarships or discounts.
Sponsorship from governments, research councils, charities, private enterprises, or similar organizations is not permitted.
How to Apply:
Applications can be submitted online, and the deadline is 1 pm (UK time) on 22 April 2025. A single application form is used, allowing eligible applicants to be considered for multiple scholarships, although only one award can be received.
