Job Description
The IS Risk Officer roles at Econet Wireless Zimbabwe are crucial to ensuring that the organization’s information technology systems and business processes are protected, controlled, and in compliance with best practices and standards. The primary purpose of these positions is to provide risk-based IT assurance, advisory, and consultancy services while safeguarding the company’s financial and reputational risks. Job Purpose: Ensuring IT Assurance and Compliance
The IS Risk Officers play a pivotal role in the organization’s risk management and IT assurance. The key objectives include:
Risk-Based IS Audit
- Implementing a risk-based IS audit for the group, which includes MNO (Mobile Network Operator), Ecocash Holdings, and Steward Bank, in compliance with IS audit standards, guidelines, and best practices
Audit Planning and Execution
- Executing audits that align with global trends and emerging IS risks.
- Planning specific audits to ensure that IT and business systems are adequately protected and controlled.
Recommendations and Governance Evaluation
- Formulating appropriate recommendations for adoption by the group after conducting audits in accordance with IS audit standards, guidelines, and best practices.
- Evaluating and deciding on the effectiveness of IT governance structures to ensure adequate board control over IT decisions, directions, and performance in alignment with the organization’s strategies and objectives.
Project and Control Evaluation
- Appraising the project management framework and project governance practices to ensure that business objectives are achieved cost-effectively while managing risks.
- Evaluating proposed control mechanisms for systems and infrastructure during specification, development/acquisition, and testing to ensure compliance with group policies and requirements.
Continued Support and Service Management
- Evaluating the process by which systems and infrastructure are maintained to ensure they continue to support the organization’s objectives and are subject to effective internal control.
- Evaluating service-level management practices to determine if the level of service from internal and external service providers is adequately defined and managed.
Access Control and Business Continuity
- Designing and recommending the implementation and monitoring of logical access controls to safeguard information assets’ confidentiality, integrity, availability, and authorized use.
- Developing and coordinating the updating of business continuity plans across the group

Data Analysis and Risk Mitigation
- Customizing and designing procedures to audit, investigate, and ensure the accuracy of system-generated reporting documents, especially in connection with anticipated or ongoing legal actions.
- Designing and performing complex data analysis using various scientific and statistical methods for different business processes and operational reviews across the group.
Risk Assessments and Mitigation
- Conducting risk assessments on new products and services within the group and providing recommendations to mitigate identified risks.
