How Parents Can Help Their Children Stay Focused During Exams
Anxiety and depression are some of the things that students encounter during exams and this is the time when parents are really needed to help children focus.
This year students were so affected by Covid 19 and lockdowns. The school calendars were altered but still had a little effect on the exam writing classes. Now the struggle to make everything work must not be on teachers only, parents must also play a role.

According to Peter Kriel from the Independent Institute of Education in South Africa, parents should play a role in ensuring that the only thing occupying their children’s minds are the exams, hence no more chores for the exam writing students. This helps in that they won’t blame the parents after failing.
Also, exams may cause depression so parents must pay close attention to any signs of depression and anxiety.
Parents have also been advised to use all the available resources at their disposal to ensure that their children are adequately prepared for an exam.
In the case of not doing as well as the learner may have wanted, Kriel suggests even registering for a one year Higher Certificate in the desired course. Upon successful completion, this will give the learner access to the degree qualification of their choice.
