This grant is one of the government’s most successful social protection interventions for poor children, reaching over 13 million children across the country. The increase in the grant amount is intended to help the most vulnerable children by allowing relatives caring for these children to provide for their basic needs and support the extended family members of orphan children.  To apply for the grant, applicants should visit a Sassa office in an area close by.  Once the CSG top-up grant is legislated, it will become a permanent support measure. This is provided that beneficiaries meet the qualifying criteria for the grant.
