Organizational Setting

The FAO country offices aim to assist governments in developing policies, programs, and projects to achieve food security, reduce hunger and malnutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture, fisheries, and forestry sectors. In Zimbabwe, the FAO is actively supporting the Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the years 2022–2026, with a focus on inclusive agrifood systems, climate resilience, and natural resource management.

Reporting Lines

The gender specialist will operate under the supervision of the FAO representative in Zimbabwe and receive direct guidance from the AFAOR program. They will also collaborate with technical units at the regional and headquarters levels.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

The Gender Specialist’s role involves fostering a gender-responsive organizational environment, conducting gender analyses and assessments, and developing gender interventions to bridge existing gaps. They are responsible for ensuring that programs and projects prioritize gender equality and the inclusion of marginalized groups. Furthermore, the Gender Specialist will implement gender and women’s empowerment approaches in relevant projects, monitor and report on the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, and promote the collection of gender-disaggregated data for women’s empowerment and youth participation.

In addition, the specialist will serve as the country focal point for gender mainstreaming, women’s empowerment, and youth and social protection issues, actively participating in gender and social protection working groups and contributing to resource mobilization efforts. They will also carry out other duties as specified.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • An advanced university degree in Gender Studies, Community Development and Population Studies, Social Science, or related fields.
  • Seven years of relevant experience in the field of gender, population, and development.
  • Proficiency in English (Level C).
  • National of Zimbabwe.
