Demonstration Attendant in various areas of Zimbabwe:
Conducting on-farm maize seed (MS) and crop protection (CP) demonstrations.
Reports directly to the Company Sales Agent of the Area.
Each Attendant is expected to cover a 10km radius area establishing at least ten maize demos and two Crop protection demos.
The Demo Attendant should do the following;
- Identify demo sites, in liaison with the Company Sales Agent.
- Plant the demos with the help of the Company Sales Agent, farmers and Agritex Extension workers. The company provides maize seed and crop protection products, and other inputs are to be provided by the farmers wherever possible.
- The Demo Attendant is to manage the weeding, pest control, and harvesting of the demos. The Demo Attendant has to take the following records; Area/District/Ward name, Farmer’s name, the area planted(ha), Maize seed variety and quantity planted, date of planting, date of emergence, plant population at emergence, plant population at physiological maturity/harvest, weed species and date of wedding/herbicide application, pest infestations especially fall armyworm, days to silking/tasseling, days to physiological maturity, a number of cobs per plant, harvesting date and yield (kg/ha) at harvesting.
- The Demo Attendant should organize farmer training, field discussions, and field days in liaison with the Sales Agents and Area Sales Manager, as well as Agritex Extension Workers. The Demo Attendant should mobilise farmers to attend field days and other related functions.
- The Demo Attendant Should take pictures at each and every stage of crop growth and key functions such as field days. Must be in possession of a smartphone to use for work
Qualifications
Either of the following qualifications would be required;
- Advanced level with 3 Science subjects including mathematics and five years of
- experience in managing Agriculture demos and field days.
- A diploma in Agriculture majoring in Crop Husbandry from a recognized Agriculture College.
- A university degree in Agriculture Crop Science from a recognized University.
